Juanita E. James, Assistant Branch Manager at the Brooklyn Public Library, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in library administration.
Ms. James is an accomplished professional librarian with 23 years of experience to her credit. Since 2015, she has excelled as an assistant branch manager at Brooklyn Public Library. During her tenure at the institution, she spent several years as a children’s librarian and served as a library associate IA from 2000 to 2014. In 2014, Ms. James completed an internship as the executive assistant to the director of the Burke Library at the Union Theological Seminary at Columbia University.
In preparation for her career pursuits, Ms. James attended St. John’s University and earned an Associate of Arts in political science and government with a minor in paralegal studies. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in liberal arts from the same institution, she attended the Katharine Gibbs School and obtained an associate degree in occupational studies with a business concentration in 2005. Ms. James concluded her higher education in 2015, graduating from Long Island University Post with a master’s degree in library and information sciences.
Alongside her formal degrees, Ms. James holds numerous professional certifications. Among her credentials, she has completed myriad online trainings through LinkedIn and received an Inclusive and Ethical Leadership Certificate from the University of South Florida’s Muma College of Business in 2022. In 2021, Ms. James completed a certificate in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace through the University of South Florida’s Corporate Training and Professional Education. Eminently qualified, she earned a Leadership Skills Certification in 1999.
To keep abreast of her field, Ms. James has maintained affiliation with numerous organizations related to her areas of expertise. She is a member of the New York Library Association and the organization’s Coalition of Library Workers of Color. Additionally, Ms. James is a past member of the People First Democratic Club, a community-based organization with Assemblywoman Nikki Lucas.
In recognition of her accomplishments, Ms. James was recognized with a Leadership Forum Certificate from the Brooklyn Public Library in 2008. In 2005, she received a Rising to the Occasion Award from the Brooklyn Public Library, and in 2004, she was named to the Presidential Honor Roll at the Katharine Gibbs School. In her spare time, she enjoys watching movies, reading novels and spending time with friends.
