Title: Senior Claims Adjuster
Company: Sedgwick Claims Management Systems
Location: Brookings, South Dakota, United States
Scott L. Ptak Sr., Senior Claims Adjuster at Sedgwick Claims Management Systems, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in claims administration.
Determined to become a better man and father than his own, Mr. Ptak worked diligently as a handyman, carpenter and contractor in order to pay for his college education, refining his skills in framing, sheetrock, painting and various construction needs during this time. He eventually graduated from Miami Dade College with an associate’s degree in computer science, but after garnering some experience in the field, he decided to bet on himself by establishing his own remodeling and home-building business in 1982 after realizing the field was more lucrative. Becoming a Certified General Contractor soon thereafter, Mr. Ptak would subsequently shift his attention to the field of hurricane restoration and renovation.
After a chance encounter with adjusters from Church Mutual Insurance Company, Mr. Ptak accepted a building consultant role with the aforementioned company in addition to his primary endeavors, leading him to obtain his Florida All-Lines Adjusting License. He was greatly motivated by the stability in insurance adjusting, so he concluded his work as a general contractor in 2007 to become a full-time insurance adjuster. In 2008, he accepted a position with an adjusting company based out of South Dakota, which enabled him to work closer to his extended family. In 2013, Mr. Ptak was recruited to work as a Senior Claims Adjuster for VeriClaim, which was acquired by Sedgwick in 2015.
Licensed as an Adjuster in Texas and Florida, Mr. Ptak is proud to have successfully handled a number of difficult claims over the years, including catastrophe claims, as his jurisdiction covers 173,000 square miles. He has also fondly recalled the opportunities to travel for his work, handling claims for Sedgwick in Australia and China. Esteemed for handling claims with empathy and sympathy, he was committed to employing at-risk youths during his time as a general contractor. Mr. Ptak has been incredibly committed to his community throughout his career, having been affiliated with Paint Your Heart Out, Habitat for Humanity, It Can Wait, and Boy Scout Troop 222.
With more than 40 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Ptak hopes to continue improving in his field while helping people with what they do. He also aims to support his three wonderful children in their burgeoning careers. Mr. Ptak has attributed his longstanding success to his determination to ensuring all repairs are right as well as his God-given ability to read people.
