Location: South St. Paul, Minnesota, United States

Maria Steffel, Executive Director at Raíces Sagradas Community Mental Health, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mental healthcare administration.

With more than 25 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Steffel has excelled as the executive director for Raíces Sagradas Community Mental Health since 2023. Offering linguistically sensitive mental health services for those living with trauma and pain, Raíces Sagradas Community Mental Health employs a team of licensed therapists who provide family, couple, group, and individual counseling, regardless of their age or insurance status, as well as psychological assessments for immigration purposes and client resource referrals. In this position, she is responsible for managing their administrative operations, including their crucial grant applications and strategic partnerships, connecting with donors and organizations that support mental health initiatives, and collecting patient data and scheduling information. Prior to this role, Ms. Steffel was active as a controller and director of finance for the Washburn Center for Children from 2021 to 2023.

Ms. Steffel previously served as a registrar and program assistant for Language & Friendship Inc. and Travel & Family Stays Abroad between 2017 and 2018, a finance manager for Wilson-McShane Corporation between 2018 and 2019, and the director of finance for Neighborhood House between 2019 and 2021. Likewise, she worked for Scoular, an agricultural trading organization, as an international document specialist from 2011 to 2015, an assistant merchandise and domestic logistic coordinator from 2011 to 2015, and an assistant controller for Grains & Seeds, Pet Food Ingredients, Fat & Oils and fishmeal and BCO in North and South America from 2015 to 2017. In the years prior, she was recruited as a senior auditor for PRG-Schultz from 2001 to 2007, a general accountant for the Lear Corporation in 2007, and a general accountant for Marintrea International from 2007 to 2011. Ms. Steffel began her career as an accountant and accounting manager for DSM / Fersinsa between 1997 and 2001.

To support her professional ambitions, Ms. Steffel pursued an education at Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila, from which she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting and finance in 1995. A first-generation college graduate from Coahuila, Mexico, she refined her skills in the pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries before eventually shifting her full attention to raising her son, though she would later transition to the field of community service. Affiliated with GrowCFO since 2023, she has contributed as a volunteer with Fundación Teletón since 2007, Meals on Wheels from 2012 to 2017, and Feed My Starving Children. In light of her impressive undertakings, Ms. Steffel has been presented with an Award of Completion from Leadership St. Paul, an Award of Completion from the Latino Leadership Program in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and an Award from Fundación Teletón.

Among the highlights of her career, Ms. Steffel is incredibly proud of delivering up to $4 million for over 2,300 families to support stable housing in the face of hardship created by COVID-19 in addition to a $3 million paycheck protection loan forgiveness for the Washburn Center for Children and Neighborhood House. She also fondly recalls leading an auditing team in the manufacturing industry at PRG-Schultz, which ultimately identified nearly $1 million in duplicate payments from several vendors. Looking toward the future, Ms. Steffel hopes to expand the reach of Raíces Sagradas Community Mental Health while adding a dedicated assistant and a team of psychologists to their impressive team.
