Johnny Bivera, principal at Visual Media One, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in photojournalism.
Leveraging more than three decades of excellence in military photojournalism, Mr. Bivera has earned distinction as the principal of Visual Media One. Since 2007, he has focused his efforts on capturing the essence of America through his unique perspective and documenting it in a way that is both captivating and thought-provoking. He documents news and media events for a variety of clients while facilitating two to three workshops a year for military and civil service photographers. Additionally, he has been the founder and executive director for Shoot Off Visual Media Workshops since 2006. He is also a valued member of the National Press Photographers Association, the White House News Photographers Association and the American Society of Media Photographers.
Prior to establishing his company, Mr. Bivera served honorably in the United States Navy until his retirement in 2006. He was a combat cameraman for Combat Camera Atlantic twice from 1991 until 1994 and 1999 until 2001. He worked for White House Television (WHTV) for The White House from 1994 until 1999. He was the official videographer for President Bill Clinton and served as an executive photographer for The Pentagon to Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Vern Clark and Admiral Mike Mullen from 2002 until 2006. Following this time, Mr. Bivera was a senior visual storytelling instructor for The Red Badge Project from 2012 until 2016 and served as the co-founder of the Legion Photo Agency from 2007 until 2017.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Bivera covered combat and humanitarian missions to maritime operations, including the Bosnia/Herzegovina conflict, the Israeli-Jordan Peace Treaty, the 1999 earthquake in Turkey and the war in Afghanistan. His work has been published in numerous books and has worked on projects for well-known publishers, including Harper Collins and the National Geographic Society. He was personally profiled for NFL Films’ “American Postcards,” C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal” and PBS’s “Jim Lehrer NewsHour.” Well-qualified in his field, he holds an advanced military photojournalism program certification from the Rochester Institute of Technology, a top graduate in his class.
Looking to the future, Mr. Bivera intends to continue engaging in his boundless creativity with photography as well as delving into screenwriting, inspired by his deepening understanding of not just his own personal past but also the rich and captivating history of his family. He also has plans to complete a passion project where he visits all 50 United States to capture the essence of each location in his photography. His ultimate goal is to portray the diversity and complexity of American culture through his work and aims to inspire others to appreciate and celebrate its many facets.
