Debbie Levin, chief executive officer at the Environmental Media Association, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in environmental media.

Ms. Levin embarked on her educational journey at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1976. Transitioning to the entertainment industry, she delved into film criticism and journalism for several years. Ms. Levin then became involved in environmental advocacy after attending a luncheon hosted by the Environmental Media Association (EMA) in late 1999, where she met the organization’s original founders. Impressed with the EMA’s mission, she accepted the role of chief executive officer beginning in 2000 and worked to improve its fundraising, program, and entertainment industry capabilities. Under Ms. Levin’s leadership, the EMA expanded its network, staging nationally broadcasted events like the EMA IMPACT Summit and the EMA Awards and Honors Benefit Gala.

Ms. Levin spearheads the EMA’s role as an environmental storyteller, with the organization’s impact transcending entertainment, reshaping global perceptions of environmental issues by collaborating with stakeholders, entrepreneurs, corporations, academics, innovators, and celebrities. Notable partnerships garnered significant acclaim with entities like The Hollywood Reporter and Amazon Studios. Toyota Motor Corporation also credited the EMA with a 20% increase in sales, with Fortune Magazine calling the organization a “secret weapon” for the auto manufacturer. Ms. Levin’s visionary efforts also encompass establishing the EMA Activist Board in 2022 and pioneering the EMA Green Seal—a global standard for environmental sustainability embraced by productions and businesses. The EMA board has seen participation from iconic figures such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Billie Eilish, Justin Timberlake, Natalie Portman, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Elon Musk.

Ms. Levin’s impactful contributions have earned her prestigious recognitions, including the United Nations First Ladies Fashion 4 Development Eco Award in 2014 and the Recyclápolis International Environmental Award in 2018. Outside her EMA commitments, she extends her influence by serving on various boards, including U.S. Green Communities, the Virtue Project, Paley Center’s Media Council, and Campbell Hall School. Embracing a holistic approach to her endeavors, she remains devoted to family while actively steering the EMA toward heightened global advocacy. Presently, she is collaborating on a groundbreaking sustainable production campus in Lisbon, Portugal—envisioned to be Europe’s largest—an initiative aimed at further advancing environmental consciousness and action on a global scale.
