With almost 30 years of experience to her credit, Dr. Trotman Scott has excelled as the chief executive officer and founder of The Octopus Agency, LLC since 2021. Her daily responsibilities are diverse and extensive, ranging from collaborating with various organizations to provide executive coaching to their leaders and facilitating professional training, learning, and strategy sessions to utilizing her extensive expertise and experience to guide doctoral students in successfully completing their dissertations.
Dr. Trotman Scott began her career as a teacher in 1994. She garnered a stellar reputation as principal from 2002 to 2004 and was fast-tracked to superintendent in 2004. She transitioned to higher education in 2004 and joined as a faculty member in Special Education at the University of West Georgia, she was tenured, promoted and served as an associate professor in 2013, and was promoted to professor in 2019 and began her tenure as the director of graduate affairs from 2006 to 2019 and as professor.
Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Trotman Scott pursued her education at The Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in special education in 1994. She continued her academic efforts at the same institution, graduating with a Master of Arts in technology education in 1997 and a PhD in urban, gifted, and special education in 2002. In addition to her primary vocation, she remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She is a board member of the National Association for Gifted Children and a member of the Council for Exceptional Children and the American Education Research Association.
In light of her impressive undertakings, Dr. Trotman Scott has accrued several accolades throughout her career. She has published numerous articles, editied multiple books, and presented on the international, national, regional and local levels. She was presented with a Diversity Award from the Council for Exceptional Children and a Founders Award from Race Mentoring. In the immediate future, she envisions collaborating with industry leaders and high achievers to provide consultation, coaching, and advocacy services.
