Mark Zyla, CPA/ABV, CFA, ASA, Managing Director at Zyla Valuation Advisors, LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in business valuation and litigation.
With decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Zyla has excelled as the managing director for Zyla Valuation Advisors LLC since 2019 and a lecturer for the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin since 2023. Prior to this position, he was active as the principal for Willamette Management Associates from 2005 to 2007 and the managing director for Acuitas Inc. from 1998 to 2005 as well as from 2007 to 2019. He previously served as the director and FAS practice leader for PricewaterhouseCoopers between 1993 and 1998. Mr. Zyla began his career as the manager for valuation services with Arthur Anderson in Atlanta, Georgia from 1985 to 1990.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Zyla pursued an education at The University of Texas at Austin, from which he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance in 1982. He concluded his studies at the Georgia State University J. Mack Robinson College of Business in 1985, graduating with a Master of Business Administration in finance. In addition to these accomplishments, Mr. Zyla obtained a number of certifications over the years, including as a chartered financial analyst by the CFA Institute, as a public accountant accredited in business valuation and financial forensics by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, in mergers and acquisitions by The Wharton School in 1995, and in valuation by Harvard Business School in 1998.
Beyond his primary responsibilities within the field, Mr. Zyla has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his immediate circles. He notably contributed to Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School as a student mentor from 2014 to 2017 and the International Valuation Standards Council as the chairman of the standards review board from 2017 to 2023. A former mentor for Transique Corporate Advisors, he was further recruited to the advisory council for the Master of Science in finance program at the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Zyla found success with his written works, having co-authored “Fair Value Measurements: Valuation Principles and Auditing Techniques (Portfolio 5127-2nd)” for BNA Bloomberg in 2010, “Auditing Fair Values of Non-Issuers (Portfolio 5404)” for BNA Bloomberg in 2014, and “Goodwill and Other Intangible Assets (Portfolio 5115-4th)” for BNA Bloomberg in 2015, and authored “Fair Value Measurement: Practical Guidance and Implementation, 3rd Edition” for John Wiley & Sons in 2020.
Attributing his success to his work with other like-minded individuals at professional organizations dedicated to enhancing their profession, Mr. Zyla was inducted into the Business Valuation Hall of Fame by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 2013. He was drawn to his profession after interviewing for Arthur Anderson, one of the most prestigious accounting firms at the time, in their fledgling valuation practice area. Among his many achievements, he is proud to have become a published author and an expert in fair value measurements. Looking toward the future, Mr. Zyla hopes to continue teaching as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas School of Business.
