John J. Dawson III, Executive Director at Chippewa Valley Habitat for Humanity and Barron County Habitat for Humanity, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nonprofit administration.

With nearly 40 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Dawson has excelled as the executive director for the Chippewa Valley Habitat for Humanity since 2020 and the Barron County Habitat for Humanity since 2021. He was previously active as the founder and president of his own building business, Dawson Builders, from 2006 to 2020. Mr. Dawson began his career with the Zurich Insurance Company Ltd, managing overseas profit centers while advancing to the positions of senior executive and president between 1986 and 2006.

To support his professional ambitions, Mr. Dawson pursued an education at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, from which he earned a bachelor’s degree in education. He subsequently concluded his studies at The University of Utah in 1981, graduating with a master’s degree in educational statistics and research methods. In addition to these accomplishments, Mr. Dawson obtained his certifications as an Associate in Risk Management, a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, and an Aging-in-Place Specialist.

Beyond his primary responsibilities within the field, Mr. Dawson has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his immediate circles. From 2006 to 2020, he had found success as the founder of The Build Team, a not-for-profit organization based out of Chicago which has since been owned and operated by his brother. Likewise, he has contributed to his community as a member of the board of directors for School District 155. Moreover, Mr. Dawson has been affiliated with such organizations as the Chippewa Valley Home Builders Association, the Chicago Home Builders Association, and the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies.

Hailing from a low-income family of eight, Mr. Dawson attributes his success to his parents and the influence of the Jesuits, who instilled in him values centered on selflessness. Among his most notable achievements, he is proud of having pivoted his focus from profits to helping those in need, including through mission trips with Habitat for Humanity, hurricane preparation, and home-building. In the coming years, Mr. Dawson hopes to continue helping families throughout all 50 states while dedicating his spare time to athletic competitions, charitable efforts, and his loving family.
