His trajectory continued with managerial responsibilities at Skybridge Development Corp. from 2009 to 2011. Mr. Downie further honed his skills as corporate manager for environmental permitting and compliance at Premier Gold Mines Limited, later joining Equinox Gold Corp. as manager of environmental permitting and compliance. Presently, he serves as an environmental permitting and compliance strategist at Cedar Water Strategy, leveraging his extensive expertise in advising mining companies on environmental assessments, sustainable mining practices, and governance.
Parallel to his tenure in the mining industry, Mr. Downie dedicated substantial time to teaching and nurturing young minds as an educator. His teaching career spanned from 1991 to 2000, contributing as an elementary school teacher at Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek, followed by roles at Superior-Greenstone District School Board and Lakehead District School Board. Mr. Downie attributes much of his success to his family’s influence in the mining industry, particularly his father, a respected geologist in Canada, and his brother, a chief executive officer of a mining company. Notably, his pivotal role in sealing a large-scale deal with Newmont Corporation during his tenure at Premier Gold Mines Limited stands as a highlight in his career.
