Prior to her current position as executive director of the New York City Equal Employment Practices Commission, she held various executive roles in both government and private sectors, including chief of Equal Employment Opportunity and chief of Human Resources at New Jersey Transit and as well as assistant commissioner of administration at the New Jersey Department of Transportation. She began her career as a civil engineer before transitioning to law, a move that significantly expanded her professional opportunities.
Before embarking on her legal career, Ms. Victor gained practical experience as a resident engineer in the construction industry, managing various projects such as at the Triborough and Verrazano Narrows Bridges and at the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. Despite initially aiming to practice construction law, she found her niche in employment law and equal employment opportunity matters while working for the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office representing the New Jersey Departments of Transportation and Treasury. Her dedication and expertise propelled her through the ranks, leading to other impactful roles in a variety of government agencies.
One of Ms. Victor’s most significant achievements came during her tenure with the New Jersey Department of the Treasury State Government, where she spearheaded a pilot program to increase the participation of women, and people of color, and minorities in the construction trades field. This initiative provided training and job placement opportunities for graduates of the program on public works projects, positively impacting communities across the state. Looking ahead, Ms. Victor aims to continue making a difference in the realm of equal employment opportunity, influencing city policies and advocating for fair employment practices. She attributes her success to her diverse background in engineering and law and “being in the right place at the right time.”
In addition to her professional pursuits, Ms. Victor is actively involved in training and mentoring the next generation. She is currently collaborating with her daughter, who recently started a company specializing in conducting equal employment opportunity investigations for companies. Ms. Victor’s extensive career underscores her commitment to promoting workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion. Her leadership and advocacy serve as an inspiration to aspiring professionals in the field.
