Setting the foundation for his professional journey, he earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture with a focus on crop science from the University of Zimbabwe in 2002 and a Master of Science in management of development, rural development, and food security from Wageningen University & Research in 2014. He embarked on his career path as a research assistant at the University of Zimbabwe and later served as a research agronomist at Ag Biotech & Swedish Cooperative Centre in Harare, Zimbabwe from 2002 to 2003. His passion for aiding vulnerable populations led him to roles such as acting chief executive officer and program manager at Factor of Hope in Harare, Zimbabwe from 2011 to 2018 and Program Adviser at Catholic Relief Services in Zimbabwe from 2007 to 2011. Furthermore, since 2019, Mr. Hokonya has been working as a Management Consultant at a leading New York consulting firm, DeftEdge Corporation.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Mr. Hokonya has been actively involved in civic and community initiatives. He has volunteered with organizations such as fairfoods.org and Loaves & Fishes. His dedication to service extends to various professional associations, including the American Evaluation Association and IAPO International Association of Professional Management Consultants. His contributions have been recognized through numerous awards and accolades, including the Fulbright Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship from the United States Department of State and the Australia Awards Fellowship from the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. His memoir, “SUCCESS: Defying the Odds through My Genius and Ingenuity,” serves as a testament to his journey and his commitment to inspiring others to overcome challenges and achieve success. Looking ahead, Mr. Hokonya plans to continue his pursuit of academic and professional growth with a doctorate degree in public policy and international relations and broaden his global impact through writing and consulting endeavors.
