With nearly 30 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Winfield has excelled as founder and executive director of 217 Recovery since 2019. He began his career as a radio personality with Cumulus Media of Dallas, Texas and the Cox Media Group of San Antonio, Texas. He garnered a stellar reputation as an air and radio personality at WIRX, part of Mid-West Family Broadcasting of Benton Harbor, Michigan from 1996 to 2003 and at WRKR of Kalamazoo, Michigan from 2004 to 2006. He established himself as director and website manager at Clear Channel Radio in 2009 before transitioning to iHeart Media, Inc. as program director, promotions director, and community relations radio personality from 2008 to 2015. 

Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Winfield pursued an education at Lake Michigan College where he pursued coursework in theater and speech before continuing at North Central Michigan College where he pursued coursework in psychology. Beyond his responsibilities within the field, he has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He held the role of Traverse City Human Rights Commissioner and volunteered with Safe Harbor of Grand Traverse and the Traverse City Cherry Festival. Moreover, he found success as host of the 217 Recovery Podcast which, with an impressive 846 episodes, holds the distinction for the highest episode count in the genre.

In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Winfield remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He was a member of Faces & Voices of Recovery and many other recovery community organizations in Michigan. In light of his impressive undertakings, he has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in Traverse City in 2023. 

In the immediate future, Mr. Winfield is eager to expand his impact in the realm of addiction recovery. He aspires to produce a compelling film on the subject and is keen on organizing a comedy tour featuring recovery speakers. He intends to establish a nationwide recovery podcast network and amplify the reach of his organization’s recovery support services nationwide.
