James Bartelme, Jr., strategy manager for the industrial power systems division at Caterpillar Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in strategy development and contract negotiations.
With 23 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Bartelme has excelled as a strategy manager since 2022. He has spent the duration of his corporate career at Caterpillar Inc. in a variety of roles. He began as a commercial buyer in the fuel systems division in 2001. Subsequently, he has served as a supplier development engineer, program manager, business development manager, corporate account manager, marketing and contracts manager, major accounts manager, and U.S. sales manager.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Bartelme pursued an education at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in engineering. He continued his academic efforts at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, obtaining a Master of Science in engineering. He concluded his studies at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, graduating with a Master of Business Administration. He holds certifications as a Six Sigma black belt, a professional facilitator, and in production and inventory management. He is currently pursuing a management accountant certification from the Institute of Management Accountants.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Bartelme has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He held executive board and leadership positions with Crittenton Centers and led fundraising campaigns for Heart of Illinois United Way. He served in the U.S. Army as an infantry officer, coached athletes in the Special Olympics, and was featured in Millennium Magazine.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Bartelme has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was presented with the Superior Supplier Gold Distinction Award from the Defense Logistics Agency, major awards from Caterpillar’s electric power dealer advisory team for outstanding customer service and for the corporate annual quality improvement competition, along with numerous awards from the U.S. Army. He was named to the Greater Peoria 40 Leaders Under 40 in 2009.
Mr. Bartelme takes great pride in his military service as he held roles in light, airborne ranger, and mechanized infantry units. Among the highlights of his tenure were deployments to the Middle East, Central America, and Southeast Asia, as well as ascending to higher leadership positions within major combat units.
