Leveraging over 50 years of experience, Mr. Barnette has cultivated a career of excellence in public policy and service. Since 2018, he has served as the president of the Virginia State Conference NAACP, where he specializes in human resources and works alongside fellow policy experts, organizers, and skilled professionals. Adjacent to his primary duties, Mr. Barnette recently joined the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) as a spokesperson in June 2022, where he advocates for the benefits of the National Guard and other reserve military forces.

A decorated military veteran in his own right, Mr. Barnette previously served with the United States Air Force for 32 years. After retiring from active duty, he briefly thereafter served with the Virginia Air National Guard and as a human resource advisor in military affairs. In honor of his dedicated service, he was honored as a Veteran Commendation Recipient in 2013, and in 2022, he received a Meritorious Service Award from the Angus Auxiliary and a Stainless Steel Service Award from the Employer National Guard of the United States. In light of his fulfilling career, Mr. Barnette largely attributes his success to his military training. During his years with the Air Force, he learned to become disciplined, how to achieve objectives, and how to work as a team player. Accounting for his accomplishments, he is most notably proud to have changed the names of two Confederate-named schools in his county, which provided a positive boost for the community. Looking to the future, Mr. Barnette hopes to continue advocating for those less fortunate and serving as a voice for the unheard.
