Mr. Perry’s professional journey is a testament to his dedication to forestry and conservation. After earning his associate of science in forest technology from Wayne Community College in 1982, he embarked on a distinguished career with the North Carolina Forest Service (NCFS). Over three decades, he held various roles within the NCFS, from Southern Pine beetle technician to Wake County ranger, culminating in his role as a certified forestry technician in 2012.

In 2013, Mr. Perry transitioned to the Roanoke Electric Cooperative, where he currently serves as the director of the Sustainable Forestry and Land Retention Project. In this role, he spearheads initiatives aimed at facilitating land retention and building family wealth through forest management. His responsibilities include outreach to forest landowners, providing technical assistance, and offering resources for conservation and forestry implementation. Through partnerships with organizations such as the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, he works to address land loss in African American communities and promote sustainable forestry practices.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Perry is actively involved in civic and industry organizations. He serves as a member of the board of directors for the N.C. Tree Farm and previously held roles such as board member and land protection chair for the Conservation Trust for North Carolina. His dedication to conservation has earned him recognition, including the Forest Conservationist of the Year Award from the governor’s office in 2022.

Mr. Perry’s achievements extend beyond accolades. He has been featured in publications such as “Black Faces in Green Spaces: The Journeys of Black Professionals in Green Careers” and has contributed to surveys and outreach efforts for Black Family Forest Owners in the Southeastern United States. His commitment to forestry education and advocacy is further demonstrated through his participation in coalition groups and industry events.

Looking ahead, Mr. Perry plans to continue advocating for conservation and forestry while empowering landowners to become stewards of their properties. With his extensive experience, passion for the environment, and dedication to community engagement, his impact on forestry and land conservation will undoubtedly endure for years to come.
