With many years of experience to his credit, Mr. Smith has excelled as the director of business continuity and crisis management with Wellstar Health System since 2023. Briefly working as a service delivery manager and a service continuity manager in Texas in 2023, he has been additionally active as the enterprise manager for business continuity management with Anthelio Healthcare Solutions since 2008 and the manager for business continuity management with Atos since 2016. He previously served in similar positions with the Department of Homeland Security, The Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Organization, Perot Systems, Cedars-Sinai, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and PHNS. Mr. Smith began his career with JCPenney as a warehouse employee and a programmer in the data center before accepting a post with Bank of America, for which he helped to establish their ACH back-up systems as well as their disaster recovery and business continuity systems.

Prior to embarking on his professional path, Mr. Smith pursued an education at The Ohio Institute of Technology, from which he earned an associate’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering in 1978. To support his myriad ambitions, he became certified as a crisis response chaplain with the Dallas Police Department and an instructor in mass disaster and fatality response by the Texas Division of Emergency Management. Moreover, Mr. Smith obtained a business continuity and crisis management certification from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012.

Beyond his primary responsibilities within the field, Mr. Smith has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his immediate circles. He has been notably dedicated to his volunteer work with disaster relief efforts around the world, including in Sri Lanka, Haiti, and Grenada, and aided in the relief and recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. As a result, he was invited as a guest speaker at the University of Florida and the Disaster Recovery Journal Conference, focusing on preparing hospitals in the event of a hurricane with five days to prepare. Mr. Smith has been celebrated with multiple accolades over the years, including a Volunteer of the Year Award from the Dallas Police Department and the Brazilian Medal of Freedom Award from the Vice President of Brazil.

Mr. Smith has been greatly inspired by God, his family, his friends, and his desire to help others, which enables him to garner immense satisfaction while making a difference in the lives of those in need. Among his proudest professional moments, he fondly recalls his involvement in emergency management in Texas, his award-winning disaster response in Sao Paulo, Brazil, his volunteer work following the explosion of the Columbia Space Shuttle, and his terrorist response training in Israel on behalf of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Looking toward the future, Mr. Smith hopes to open a large-scale animal rescue with his wife while furthering his reach in emergency and crisis management in the healthcare sector.
