Evan P. Katz, founder and chief executive officer at The HCD Experience, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in information technology.
Mr. Katz is a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience in information technology and graphic design. He earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1998 and a certification in graphic design from the University of the Arts in 1999.
After these achievements, he founded Excellence Web Designs in 1999, where he worked as a web designer, graphic designer, and instructor until 2010. During this time, he also served as a senior traffic manager at Tierney Communications, previously Tierney & Partners Advertising, from 1999 to 2000. He continued to expand his expertise, working as a web and graphic designer for the eGenone Project at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia from 2000 to 2003 and later as a design studio manager at the same institution from 2003 to 2007. He then transitioned to the role of senior graphic designer at SIG Susquehanna in 2007.
His career progressed as he became a user interface and web designer at SAP America Inc. from 2007 to 2009 and an instructor at Full Circle Computing from 2009 to 2010. Following this, he returned to his entrepreneurial roots, founding Excellence Web Designs, where he continued to excel until 2010.
After his time at Lockheed Martin Corporation, Mr. Katz held positions as a user interface designer and developer at Rosetta Stone LLC, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, and senior user experience designer at T. Rowe Price. He then served as a lead user experience designer and user interface developer at Softrams – Quality Payment Program Project. From 2018 to 2019, he was a lead user interface developer at Leidos and a senior user experience designer at Tantus Technologies Inc. He later became the director of user experience at eSimplicity in 2019. Mr. Katz’s most recent roles include director of user experience at Sparksoft Corporation from 2019 to 2022 and director of user experience at Pluribus Digital from 2022 to 2023.
In 2023, Mr. Katz founded The HCD Experience, where he currently serves as founder and chief executive officer. He oversees the entire process from conception to completion, ensuring designs align with end users’ expectations before development. His team creates designs subject to user testing, iterating based on feedback, and translates them into HTML prototypes for testing across devices.
Mr. Katz attributes his success to his father’s remark, “You have an answer for everything,” which he initially perceived as a negative trait but later discovered to be a valuable asset. This propensity for providing solutions has shaped his desire for thorough research and data-driven solutions.
One of the highlights of Mr. Katz’s career is tackling challenges initially deemed insurmountable. Engaged by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield as a contractor, he identified discrepancies in work conducted by a previous ad agency and promptly alerted the company. Subsequently, the company entrusted him with the leadership of the project, resulting in a substantial improvement in the website’s usability and a notable increase in user satisfaction.
In the coming years, Mr. Katz aims to illuminate industry pitfalls, debunk misconceptions, and emphasize the necessity of human-centered design processes and senior-level talent within organizations. He advises aspiring professionals to obtain user feedback and rigorously test prototypes with end-users before product development.
