Dr. Babs O. Onabanjo, President and Chief Executive Officer at A.D. King Foundation and Professor at Atlanta Metropolitan State College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in leadership development and computer science education.
With more than 40 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Onabanjo has excelled as a professor of computer science at Atlanta Metropolitan State College since 1982, a position in which he has been able to shape the minds of generations of technologists and entrepreneurs. Over the course of his impressive tenure in academia, he further contributed to the aforementioned college as the chairperson for the School of Business and Information Technology from 2008 to 2012, the director of Cisco Certified Network Associate certifications from 2008 to 2012, the chair of the faculty senate from 2017 to 2023, and the coordinator of computer science and computer information systems.
Furthermore, Dr. Onabanjo has been active as both the president and chief executive officer of the A.D. King Foundation since 2009, an organization dedicated to empowering youth through education, exposure, and leadership development while enhancing awareness of the Civil Rights Movement. In this post, he proudly hosted 50 Nigerian chancellors at a Paradigm Shift Gala in 2015, offering an insightful look at academic and business strategies that could be replicated in his native country of Nigeria while indulging guests in cultural ambiance. As a result of his stellar results as both an educator and a mentor, Dr. Onabanjo has established himself as an accomplished manager, exhibiting the mindset of an adept entrepreneur and a versatile consultant.
Born in Nigeria and relocating to the United States in 1976, Dr. Onabanjo began his career as an instructor of management and marketing at Alabama State University from 1979 to 1980, teaching classes on business policy and strategy formulation, marketing research, economics, and production management, among other essential lessons in business. He subsequently served as an assistant professor of computer science at Morris Brown College between 1983 and 1984. During this time, he was additionally appointed as an assistant director, the chief information officer, a program coordinator, and a consultant for the Title III Program at Morris Brown College. Dr. Onabanjo is also affiliated with the Atlanta chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
Before embarking upon his professional path, Dr. Onabanjo pursued a formal education at Alabama State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in computer information systems and management and a Master of Science in computer information systems and counseling in 1976. He continued his studies with a Master of Business Administration in information systems at Auburn University at Montgomery, which he completed in under one year, which was a record at the time. Following these accomplishments, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in psychological counseling from Clark Atlanta University in 1989. Dr. Onabanjo concluded his academic efforts at Clark Atlanta University in 1995, graduating with a Master of Science in computer science.
Throughout his career, Dr. Onabanjo is incredibly proud to have witnessed the transformative impact of his work on young lives, especially for those who have returned to support their own communities and strived to make a positive difference for the world as a whole. In the coming years, he hopes to expand his reach to a global level so that he may reach the youth of the world on each continent. Dr. Onabanjo also aims to cement his legacy outside of the classroom as a catalyst for change.
