His career includes owning Stratosphere Industries from 2016 to 2024, working as a personal banker II at Fifth Third Bank in 2020, serving as an office specialist for the City of Kentwood from 2018 to 2020, and working as a loan officer at My Personal Credit Union from 2017 to 2018. He commenced his career as a personal banker at Huntington National Bank from 2016 to 2017.
Before embarking on his professional path in finance, Mr. Alfonso served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2008 to 2013. He was deployed as part of a security task force for Medivac security in Afghanistan, completing back-to-back combat tours. His service earned him a Certificate of Commendation and various achievement medals. Before embarking on his professional path, he pursued his education at San Diego Mesa College in 2014, followed by Bachelor of Business Administration coursework at Haworth College of Business, Western Michigan University in 2017. Following this, he earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Southern New Hampshire University in 2022. He takes pride in being the first in his family to graduate from high school and college. Additionally, he has earned various certifications from LinkedIn and holds a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Alfonso ran for Congress in 2022, garnering 42.5% of the vote with grassroots support and less than $50,000. He remains actively involved with various organizations, serving on the State of Michigan Plumbing Board since 2020, the Veterans Affairs Board for Ottawa County from 2022 to 2024, and the Officers Compensation Board for Ottawa County from 2022 to 2024. He was treasurer for Navigators USA Chapter 175 from 2021 to 2023 and acts as a financial literacy advisor for nonprofits. Additionally, he is a member of the NAACP and the State Planning Board for the New York State governor. He attributes his success to the guidance of his mother and grandmother from the Dominican Republic, who emphasized seizing every opportunity despite challenges. Looking ahead, he plans to initiate at least 60 community projects addressing homelessness and infrastructure issues. He believes hard work and sacrifice pay off, and reflecting on his journey, he wishes he had understood the necessity of sacrifice earlier to make swifter, more focused decisions.
