He served as president of Par Management, Sky Meadow from 1990 to 1992, and as general manager of real estate development at Wentworth by the Sea from 1987 to 1990. He also held the role of president at NuMed Management from 1983 to 1986.
Additionally, Mr. DeVore was the founding chief executive officer of Health Systems, Inc., one of the nation’s premier healthcare management consulting practices. Under his leadership, HSI’s development management division oversaw nearly a billion dollars in healthcare facility development during the seventies and early eighties. The company represented over 500 hospitals, medical schools, physician groups, long-term care facilities, senior housing, and healthcare systems across the United States. He successfully led the company for 16 years before selling it in 1986.
Mr. DeVore began his career as a staff architect, associate partner, and partner at Perry Shaw Hepburn and Dean Architects from 1967 to 1970. His military service includes roles as an engineering officer in the 101st Tactical Fighter Group of the Massachusetts Air National Guard from 1966 to 1972, where he was honorably discharged as First Lieutenant in 1972, and as a deckhand in Saigon, South Vietnam in 1966.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. DeVore pursued an education at Phillips Exeter Academy, where he earned his high school diploma in 1958. He continued his academic efforts at Harvard University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Sciences and Russian Literature, cum laude, in 1961. He furthered his education at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, obtaining a Master of Architecture with distinction in 1965. Following these accomplishments, Mr. DeVore was awarded the Julia Amory Appleton Traveling Fellowship, allowing him to study the evolution of Asian architecture from India to Japan from 1965 to 1966.
Mr. DeVore is dedicated to his roles on various non-profit boards and providing strategic consulting services. He serves on the board of advisors for the Florida Gulf Coast University Water School and has been an invited contract faculty member at the Institute of Healthcare Improvement. He also brings his expertise to the University of Vermont SPARK Program: Technology Commercialization, and the National Patient Safety Foundation, where he has been involved in finance, strategic planning, and development. Since 2000, he has been on the board of advisors for Jackson Lumber and Millwork and has served as the planned giving chair for Phillips Exeter Academy since 1983.
Mr. DeVore’s extensive civic and philanthropic roles include president, vice president, and director on the board of directors for the Villa Sanibel Condominium Association, and board member of the finance and development committees for the National Patient Safety Foundation. He co-founded the Thompson Island Outward Bound School and was chairman of the Burke Mountain Academy Board. His involvement extends to the Jackson Companies, Intellimetrics, JobMagic, Leaders For Today, Brodeur Worldwide, and ED Dashboard, where he has served as a board member and angel investor. Additionally, he founded the Inland Lakes Educational Foundation, demonstrating his commitment to educational and community development.
Throughout his career, Mr. DeVore’s most remarkable accomplishment was during his tenure at Harvard Medical Institution. He developed a database, algorithm, and tools that significantly reduced errors and deaths. Despite being a businessperson, he chose to work for Harvard’s non-profit insurance company because he believed he could make a more significant impact there than anywhere else.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. DeVore has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was recognized with the Julia Amory Appleton Traveling Fellowship, an award from Phillips Exeter Academy, and was the first Propeller Award from Thompson Island School recipient.
