Mikiyon W. Alexander, head of investment banking coverage and municipal securities principal at Momentus Securities, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in finance.
Building on nearly two decades of experience in finance, Mr. Alexander currently holds the position of head of investment banking coverage and municipal securities principal at Momentus Securities. Before this role, he served as the director of public finance investment banking for Barclays. Mr. Alexander established himself further in the investment world as the senior director and sector head of community development and social lending at Fitch Ratings.
Mr. Alexander started his career with a lengthy tenure at S&P Global Ratings, beginning as an associate of corporate government finance in 2005. Throughout the course of 12 years with the company, he worked in a variety of roles, including associate director of U.S. public finance, analytical manager, senior director of housing enterprise structured securities, and senior director and sector leader of housing and social enterprise lending institutions. Mr. Alexander’s final role with S&P Global Ratings stands out as a highlight of his career. When he was given this opportunity, he decided to explore the challenge of raising capital for community development institutions. Mr. Alexander developed a methodology and business line to achieve this goal and was so successful that he was asked to repeat the process for his position at Fitch Ratings.
A strong academic background provides the foundation for Mr. Alexander’s successful career. He received a Bachelor of Arts in public administration from Kentucky State University in 2003, followed by earning a Master of Science from The New School in 2005. Dedicated to continued improvement, Mr. Alexander has obtained certification in credit analysis and in executive leadership from The Executive Leadership Council, and multiple certifications from The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, including in securities industry essentials, investment banking representative, municipal securities representative, municipal securities principal and uniform securities agent. He also completed Executive Master of Business Administration coursework at New York University in 2010.
As a commitment to his field, Mr. Alexander has remained active in several industry-related organizations, including the Opportunity Finance Network, the Municipal Analyst Group of New York, the National Council of State Housing Agencies, and the Council of Development Finance Agencies. He has contributed to multiple articles related to the field of finance throughout his career. Mr. Alexander’s achievements have been honored with accolades such as being named a Bond Buyer Rising Star in 2019 and being listed on The Network Journal’s 40 Under 40 in 2011. He participated in the executive leadership program run by the Council of Urban Professionals, reflecting his drive for personal growth.
Beyond his primary vocation, Mr. Alexander has supported his community through civic engagement. He served as the board treasurer for the executive committee of the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative for several years and has participated in six half marathons, demonstrating his commitment to both personal health and making the world a better place.
Outside of his career, Mr. Alexander enjoys photography, traveling, music, art, and fitness. He credits his success to unwavering confidence and determination despite facing adversity. Looking to the future, Mr. Alexander aims to continue pushing himself in roles at major banks and financial institutions. He prides himself on disrupting the market by developing new approaches, and he hopes to inspire larger banks to adopt those methods.
