Gary Brett Clavio, planning manager for Santa Fe County and owner, principal and founder at Clavio Designers and Planning, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in urban and regional planning.

Building on a career of 25 years in city and regional planning, Mr. Clavio currently serves as the planning manager for Santa Fe County, where he oversees land use, transportation, growth management and other initiatives. He has worked in multiple roles within Santa Fe County since 2018, including as senior transportation planner and transportation planning team leader. Concurrently with his work as a planning manager, he holds the positions of owner and principal of Clavio Designs and Planning, which he founded in 2001. Before starting with Santa Fe County, Mr. Clavio earned a reputation for quality as an advanced urban and regional planner for the New Mexico Department of Transportation.  A former land use planning consultant with Permit Place and an urban design consultant with Lynx Architecture Studio LLC,  Mr. Clavio served as a project manager for Omnitrans from 2008 to 2010. He gained foundational experience in management and government as a project coordinator at Intel Corporation and as a transportation planner for the California Department of Transportation.

Mr. Clavio’s academic background includes an Associate of Arts in architecture from the City College of San Francisco in 1995. He subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science in city and regional planning from California Polytechnic State University in 1998. Dedicated to sharing his knowledge with others in the industry, Mr. Clavio trained new planners for the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council, teaching less experienced urban planners how to achieve national economic objectives while remaining aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. 

Among his career highlights, Mr. Clavio led a $20 million, 20-year-old construction project for new roads in Santa Fe. He played a crucial role in securing almost half of the funding needed for the project, facilitating greater accessibility and the development of thousands of new homes. Looking to the future, Mr. Clavio intends to continue shaping the planning and development of the Santa Fe area. Additionally, he hopes to expand his role in education and mentorship, taking more time to train others. He also plans to author books, further contributing to the world through his passion and expertise.
