Rupert A. Walters, chairman of the board of directors at Cancer Support Team, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in marketing informatics.

With three decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Walters excelled in the field of marketing informatics. He currently sits as chairman of the board of directors of the Cancer Support Team, a role he has held since 2023. Cancer Support Team is a nonprofit organization that provides professional nursing, social work services, and practical help to cancer patients and their families in southern Westchester County, New York. In this role, he is entrusted with fundraising, operational support, recruitment of nurses, and boosting the number of patients aided annually, which is a pivotal metric of success for the Cancer Support Team. 

Prior to his current role and retirement, Mr. Walters was the group president of Circana, previously NPD Group, from 2006 to 2014 and president from 1993 to 2001. From 1991 to 1996, he served as president and chief operating officer at Ipsos America Inc., U.S. and Canada. He was the chief executive officer of Residential Mortgages at Chemical Bank in 1988 and Popsicle Industries with the Sara Lee Corporation from 1983 to 1988. He also held positions in marketing information, sales, and marketing at J. Walter Thompson, Spectrum, Kraft, General Foods, and Warner Amex Cable Television. 

Additionally, From 1991 to 1996, Mr. Walters served on the Worldwide Management Board of Ipsos America Inc., U.S., and Canada, and from 1987 to 1993, he was a member of the advisory board for NPD Group, now Circana. His memberships include the Young Presidents’ Organization, the Larchmont Yacht Club, and the board of directors for Bonnie Briar Country Club, where he has also contributed to the social, tennis, and food and beverage committees. Underscoring these achievements, he earned a Master of Business Administration in marketing from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania in 1968. 

Mr. Walters takes pride in his membership in the Young Presidents’ Organization, which honors individuals who achieve chief executive officer (CEO) status by age 40. He earned this invitation by successfully transforming the Popsicle Industries brand from 1980 to 1987, modernizing the business, and selling it successfully. This accomplishment set the stage for his subsequent achievements as a president and CEO over the past 30 years. He was also featured in the local press in Westchester, New York, in 2023 and on the front page of the Business Section of The New York Times in 1986 for The Popsicle’s Rejuvenation. His awards include being named Young People to Watch by Fortune Magazine in 1986.  

Reflecting on his career path, Mr. Walters has been a dedicated member of the Cancer Support Team since 1986. His involvement began when his best friend’s wife co-founded the organization. Recognizing the need for business expertise on the board, they asked him to join their efforts. Over the years, he has served the organization in various roles, leading to his current position as chairperson. His expertise now spans various areas, including human resources, operations, and hiring nurses, all crucial for the Cancer Support Team’s growth. He takes great pride in making a positive impact by improving various aspects of the companies he has worked for and consistently striving to excel.

Looking to the future, Mr. Walters is eager to mentor and inspire his family and friends, helping them become more productive and enhance their companies. He also hopes to expand the Cancer Support Team into a larger enterprise, providing greater assistance to cancer patients. He also aims to enjoy more travel experiences with his wife, exploring the world and potentially transitioning into retirement. Meanwhile, he remains committed to contributing to the not-for-profit sector, leveraging his skills to drive meaningful improvements in communities and organizations.
