Ms. Hightower began her professional journey as an operator with Ohio Bell in Youngstown, Ohio, from 1964 to 1967. Demonstrating her exceptional skills, she advanced through the ranks at Ohio Bell to become a supervisor and a service observer between 1969 and 1971. She was subsequently appointed by Ohio Bell as group chief operator from 1972 to 1979 and the marketing director from 1972 to 1982. Her tenure at Ohio Bell culminated in her position as an assistant manager from 1982 to 1984. Ms. Hightower was additionally active as the financial chairman for the Republican Women of Youngstown, Ohio and both the director and credit chairman for Saints Savings and Trust.

Since 2022, Ms. Hightower has excelled as a success job coach with Compass Family Services, a post that she has acknowledged as particularly fulfilling. In this role, she focuses on enhancing the community by enriching the lives of her clients, drawing on her own personal experiences and personal values to instill in them the confidence and resilience needed to face the world. Furthermore, she has found success as the owner of Selena Hightower Enterprises, a boutique that offers a wide range of clothing through rentals, purchases, trades, and gently used items. Inspired by the legacy of Jackie Kennedy, Selena Hightower Enterprises has become a staple in her community, reflecting Ms. Hightower’s trusted flair for fashion and business acumen.

In the midst of her multifaceted career, Ms. Hightower decided to support her professional ambitions at Youngstown State University, further solidifying her academic credentials with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 2000. She would return to her studies at Goshen College, from which she graduated with a Master of Theology in 2020. Devoted to her ongoing spiritual journey, Ms. Hightower hopes to conclude her formal education in the near future, as she is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in divinity.

She is a member of Mount Calvary Pentecostal Church, where she has contributed in various capacities, including as a deacon’s wife, teacher, and choir member. Her work with the United Kingdom Destiny Ministerial Alliance as a college dean as well as her past role as fellowship moderator, underscores her commitment to spiritual leadership and guidance. She has also dedicated time to helping women transition from prison back to home life, exhibiting her empathy and steadfast support for those facing significant challenges.

Ms. Hightower’s achievements extend beyond her professional and civic contributions. Her children’s successes have been cited as her greatest source of pride, with one working for a guardian at Compass Family Services. Her grandson and great-grandchildren bring her immense joy, and she cherishes the time spent with them. As she approaches her 80th birthday, Ms. Hightower has set her sights on new goals. In addition to completing her doctorate, she hopes to publish her book of poetry in the coming years.
