With more than 25 years of experience in the field, Dr. DiPaola has distinguished himself as the chief executive officer of Therabene Inc., a biotechnology company he co-founded in 2020. In this role, he assists the company in studying a novel class of molecules that is used to address triple-negative breast cancer and pancreatic cancer. Additionally, Dr. DiPaola serves as the head of research for Akttyva Therapeutics, an organization of pharmaceutical industry veterans focused on drug discovery. Further showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit, he founded and is chief executive officer of Oncovolution, a company developing new chemotherapy methods.

Prior to launching Therabene Inc., Dr. DiPaola held the position of principal consultant and president at Epic Pharma Consulting, which he founded in 2006. He also started Blue Stream Laboratories Inc. that same year and contributed to the company for 10 years as the chief scientific officer and chief operating officer. Dr. DiPaola built up his reputation in the area of cancer research as director of operations with Antigenics. He began his career at Biogen in 1998. Throughout the course of his career, he has played an essential part in bringing numerous drugs from research to utilization in the general population in a much more efficient and timely manner than usual.

Dr. DiPaola’s success relies on a strong academic foundation. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Queens College and a Master of Business Administration from Baruch College. Subsequently, Dr. DiPaola earned a PhD in chemistry with a focus on biophysics from New York University. Following that, he completed postdoctoral studies in biochemistry and neuroscience at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, and in pharmacology at New York University’s Grossman School of Medicine. Demonstrating his gratitude for his education, Dr. DiPaola has become a regular donor to New York University and the City University of New York.

Dr. DiPaola has established himself as someone devoted to giving back to his community and society as a whole. He contributes to The Greater Boston Food Bank in support of families in need, as well as other charities that he finds meaningful. Looking to uplift others in his field, Dr. DiPaola supports Mansfield Bio-Incubator Inc., a group that offers resources to biotechnology startups in the Boston area.

Well-regarded for his contributions to the field, Dr. DiPaola was highlighted in World’s Leaders magazine. In addition to the many new medications and therapies he has studied, he has also authored or co-authored more than 70 publications and has been granted four patents. Dr. DiPaola attributes his success to persistence, hard work, self-drive and encouragement from his parent, who offered their support even as he immigrated from his home country of Italy to the United States.

Beyond his career, Dr. DiPaola is a dedicated father to three children and enjoys playing soccer, watching comedies and sports, biking and hiking. Looking to the future, he intends to continue expanding Therabene to have a broader view of the market and the ability to help more people suffering from cancer. Despite his leadership position, Dr. DiPaola plans to remain directly involved in the research and development of new products, which he hopes will then be approved for use.
