Mark Wietecha, managing director of health care at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care governance.

Drawing on more than 40 years of experience, Mr. Wietecha serves as a managing director of health care at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLP. Among his responsibilities as a senior member of the Manatt Health Strategies team, Mr. Wietecha has led numerous policy initiatives in support of hospitals, academic medical centers and other health care clients. He also plays a pivotal role in facilitating federal funding and financial relief, with a particular interest in working on behalf of children’s hospitals.

Mr. Wietecha’s passion for children’s hospitals was born during his noteworthy tenure as president and chief executive officer of the Children’s Hospital Association from 2011 to 2023. In this position, he worked directly with politicians in the White House and Congress to raise over $3 billion in relief payments during the COVID-19 pandemic, a feat he considers the highlight of his career so far. Before joining the Children’s Hospital Association, Mr. Wietecha held the position of senior partner and executive chairman of the board at Kurt Salmon, a global consulting firm now owned by Accenture Strategy, for 25 years. His career started as a senior sales representative with the Upjohn Company in 1982.

Before venturing onto his vocational path, Mr. Wietecha sought a strong education, beginning with a Bachelor of Science in biology from Grand Valley State University in 1979. He went on to earn a Master of Science in pharmacology from The Ohio State University in 1981 and a Master of Business Administration from Indiana University Bloomington in 1984. The quality of Mr. Wietecha’s work has been recognized with many accolades, including being featured in Consulting Magazine. He was named one of the Top Five Health Care Leaders to Know and was listed among the Most Influential Consultants by Becker’s Hospital Review.

Mr. Wietecha has been an active member of several important organizations relevant to his field. He has served as the director of Virtual PICU Systems LLC since 2012 and was formerly chairman of the board. Mr. Wietecha previously contributed as a trustee to the University of California, Los Angeles and the Association of American Medical College’s Council of Teaching Hospitals. He also spent several years as director and chairman of the board for the Management Consulting Group and Kurt Salmon Associates, further showcasing his expertise.

Known for his civic advocacy, Mr. Wietecha offers his time and insight as a member of the executive advisory committee for The Child and Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative at John Hopkins University. He has also devoted resources to such causes as the National Foundation to End Child Abuse and Neglect, OpenNotes and the advisory board of the Shepherd Center, among others. Mr. Wietecha believes his success is due to the passion he has for his work, especially for helping children suffering from major illnesses and injuries by supporting children’s hospitals. He feels privileged to have opportunities to help sick children.

Beyond his career, Mr. Wietecha enjoys travel, music, antiques, cooking, sports and reading. Looking ahead, he remains committed to uplifting the health outcomes of children in the United States and worldwide. Mr. Wietecha hopes to make children’s hospitals (and thus children themselves) a top priority in society. He plans to pursue further efforts to highlight the significance of these institutions, with aspirations of making a lasting impact on the future.
