In this capacity, he helps develop healthy, life-changing brands that are beverage or snack-based. His previous positions include senior vice president of supply at Baxters Food Group from 2022 to 2023, global innovation go-to-market leader at Mars from 2020 to 2022, Global commercial lead at Mars from 2018 to 2020, and global purchases director at Procter & Gamble from 1994 to 2018. He is also the developer of the Boom Chaga Mushroom Superdrink, a wellness beverage crafted with Chaga mushrooms, renowned for their antioxidant and immune-boosting properties. Laying a solid educational foundation, he earned a Bachelor of Science from Purdue University in 1997 and a Master of Business Administration from Xavier University in 2001.
Reflecting on his career path, Mr. Funk shared that after his wife tragically succumbed to brain cancer, he diligently explored various treatments from around the world. During this period, he relocated to Florida for his position at Mars, where he discovered chaga mushrooms at a local farmer’s market. Intrigued, he conducted extensive research into their potential benefits. Partnering with a business associate, he embarked on a journey of research and development, culminating in the launch of BOOM Chaga, the flagship brand of The Better For You Company. Despite his extensive experience in large consumer product companies, he realized his true passion lay in making a difference in people’s lives, which motivated him to start and invest in his own company. He takes immense pride in getting Boom Chaga off the ground, a feat achieved after two and a half years of development and securing two patents, despite the limited resources compared to his previous ventures. He attributes success to hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others. In the coming years, he aims to expand his company to encompass three to five brands, increase its workforce, and offer employees meaningful opportunities.
