With more than 25 years of experience to her credit, Mrs. Thornhill has excelled as the chief executive officer of Mrs. Marcy’s Homemades, a boutique applesauce manufacturing company, since 2020. In addition to this position, she has been active as the customer account manager for the Virginia Information Technologies Agency since 2019. A former adjunct professor at Virginia Commonwealth University between 2014 and 2022, she previously worked as a project manager at Capital One and SunTrust Mortgage between 1997 and 2012, an enterprise program manager with Federal Reserve Information Technology from 2005 to 2011, the director of compliance and administration for Centura College from 2012 to 2013, and a project management specialist for the Virginia Community College System from 2013 to 2014. In recent years, Mrs. Thornhill served as a program manager for the learning management system with Virginia Union University from 2014 to 2015, a program manager for ResCare Workforce Services from 2015 to 2016, and a program director for Ross Innovative Solutions from 2017 to 2018.

To support her professional ambitions, Mrs. Thornhill earned a Bachelor of Arts in business administration with a concentration in finance at Virginia Commonwealth University in 1994, a master’s degree in project management from The George Washington University in 2011, a Master of Business Administration in human resource management from Strayer University in 2011, and a Master of Education in educational leadership and administration from Strayer University in 2015. Her passion for education and community service is further evident in her work as the chief executive officer of Kollege and Kareer 4 Youth (KaKY), a nonprofit organization founded in 2005 that aims to provide resources and guidance to young people navigating college and career paths. As a first-generation college graduate, she understands the challenges of accessing higher education and remains committed to helping others avoid the same obstacles. Mrs. Thornhill’s dedication to community service is likewise demonstrated through her 20-year membership at Saint Paul’s Baptist Church in Richmond, her role as vice president of the Golden Rose Foundation, her volunteer work with the Department of Juvenile Justice, and her election as the epistoleus for the Iota Sigma Alumni Chapter of Sigma Gamma RHO.

Beyond her primary responsibilities, Mrs. Thornhill is an accomplished author with several published works, including “He vs She: Women and the Gender Pay Gap” in 2014 and “Teen Entrepreneurship Workbook” in (2019). Her latest book, ‘An Apple a Day: Applesauce Cookbook and Journal,” reflects her entrepreneurial spirit and passion for cooking, inspired by her unexpected journey into applesauce making during the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognized for her entrepreneurial and community achievements, she has been presented with numerous honors, including the Made in Virginia Award in 2021 and recognition as the Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year by the Metropolitan Business League in 2023. Looking toward the future, Mrs. Thornhill hopes to inspire and empower others through her leadership and service while continuing to realize the vision and mission of Mrs. Marcy’s Homemades.
