Cynthia D. Snooks-Key, MBA, chief of staff for the office of financial management at the U.S. Department of the Interior, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in government policy.
With nearly two and a half decades of experience, Ms. Snooks-Key has established a successful career in government policy, specializing in policy analysis, legal assistance, and strategic planning. She currently excels as the chief of staff at the Office of Financial Management with the U.S. Department of the Interior, a position she has held since 2020. In this role, her responsibilities include planning and directing all administrative, financial, and operational activities for the deputy chief financial officer and director of PFM. Previously, she served as a financial management specialist at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management from 2010 to 2020, alternate federal women’s program manager at the Federal Bureau of Prisons from 2006 to 2010, and budget and fiscal specialist at the Federal Bureau of Prisons from 2003 to 2010. Her earlier roles included accounting technician at the Federal Bureau of Prisons from 1999 to 2003, accounting technician at the United States Property and Fiscal Office in 1985, and clerk typist to principal audit account clerk at the Department of Insurance. She also has military experience, serving as a staff sergeant in the New Jersey Army National Guard from 1981 to 1996, a finance specialist in the New Jersey Army National Guard, and a financial management specialist and personnel apprentice in the United States Air Force.
Ms. Snooks-Key has also contributed as an author of “The Essence of My Being” and as a contributor to the Agency Financial Report. Additionally, she is a member of Kappa Epsilon Psi Military Sorority Inc., the National Honor Society, and Omega Nu Lambda National Honor Society. She dedicates her time to various nonprofit organizations, including Head Start, Boys & Girls Club of America, Youth Advocacy, and AmeriCorps, and volunteers with a feeding program for the homeless, special needs community support, and life coaching within local communities. She also serves on the advisory board at Shenandoah University and is a global member of the Executive Council at Leading Change.
In light of her impressive undertakings, Ms. Snooks-Key has been named one of the Top 50 Women Leaders of Maryland by Women We Admire and received the Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal from the New Jersey Army National Guard. Laying a solid educational foundation for these successes, she earned a Bachelor of Science in paralegal studies from Kaplan College of Professional Studies in 2006, a Master of Business Administration in accounting with honors from the American Public University System in 2015 and is currently pursuing a PhD in organization and management with a focus on executive coaching from Liberty University. Her certifications include an Executive Leadership Certificate and a Performance Leadership Certificate from Cornell University, an Accounting Certificate from Prince George’s Community College, a Personnel Apprentice Certificate from the United States Air Force, and an Administrative Specialist Certificate from the United States Army.
Ms. Snooks-Key takes great pride in successfully collaborating with her senior advisor to address managing an inventory of over 45 to 50 obsolete properties in the Widard section that had been neglected since 2017. Upon her arrival, she took the initiative to obtain reports from the property office, revealing that the equipment had not been serviced or documented since 2017. She is also very proud to have developed the SBMS system, which now serves as the primary database for all property-related information. She attributes her success to her tenacity and resilience, is committed to doing whatever it takes to get things done and prioritizes tasks effectively. In the coming years, she plans to expand her coaching business. Additionally, she aims to develop a program to support older individuals, feeling a strong desire to give back to those who have supported her and to ensure they are not taken advantage of.
