Donna M. Fowlkes, CTP, MBA, assistant vice president of treasury at EquiTrust Life Insurance, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in accounting.
With nearly three decades of experience, Ms. Fowlkes has built a successful career in accounting, specializing in presentations, capital structure, loan covenants, funding, interest rate risk management, and credit risk management. She currently excels as the assistant vice president of treasury at EquiTrust Life Insurance Company, a role she has held since 2024. In this position, she oversees the management of all cash inflows and outflows within the organization, leads a team of five, including a treasury manager and four direct reports, and manages banking and debt relationships. Additionally, she oversees the administration of customer policies, ensures that investment accounts are adequately funded, manages depository accounts, and ensures timely bill payments for accounts payable. She also manages fund movements in and out of investments and maintains a strong relationship with the Federal Home Loan Bank for funding investments. Her experience also includes serving as corporate treasurer at Tempel from 2015 to 2024, assistant treasurer at HUB International Limited from 2007 to 2015, and assistant treasurer at Ace Hardware from 2001 to 2007. She also worked in treasury operations at Ameritech Corporation from 1998 to 2000 and held roles as assistant treasurer and treasurer in the cellular division at Ameritech Cellular from 1993 to 1998.
Laying a solid educational foundation, Mr. Fowlkes earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University in 1979 and a Master of Business Administration in finance from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University in 1988. She is also a Certified Treasury Professional. Additionally, she is a member of various organizations, including the National Black MBA Association, the Treasury Management Association of Chicago, and the Association for Financial Professionals. She has been actively involved in his local church, previously served as a leader and badge coordinator with the Boy Scouts of America for seven years and volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Reflecting on her path, she has consistently demonstrated her ability to generate substantial revenue for her company through strategic adjustments. One of her notable accomplishments was implementing a system that streamlined the process of accessing bank balances, saving both time and resources, and she also played a key role in consolidating treasury operations for the Bell operating companies and non-regulated entities, introducing an efficient cash pooling structure that significantly benefited the organization.
Another significant achievement was Mr. Fowlkes’ involvement in Ameritech Cellular’s acquisition of Cybertel, a cellular phone company in Missouri, which expanded the company’s coverage area. She attributes her success to the unwavering determination she inherited from her late parents, who instilled in her a strong drive for success from a young age. In the coming years, she is committed to continuing her track record of making positive changes in her current role. Her goal is to consistently achieve a revenue target of 600,000 annually, expressing her determination to maintain this level of success. Additionally, she is focused on making a meaningful impact, maintaining a positive influence within the organization, and assuming greater responsibilities as the company grows. She aspires to be promoted to vice president of treasury, a position that holds great significance for her.
