His responsibilities include leading research and development in engineering, building teams focused on creating new cancer-fighting technologies, and working to provide advanced radiotherapy and radiation treatments. His experience also includes serving as research and development director at Haemonetics Corporation from 2018 to 2022, senior operations program manager at Hologic Inc. from 2013 to 2018, and manufacturing project manager at Hologic from 2012 to 2013. he managed manufacturing engineering for Hologic in Costa Rica from 2006 to 2011 and worked in supply chain management and manufacturing at Baxter from 2000 to 2006 and Sara Lee Branded Apparel in Costa Rica from 1997 to 2000. His memberships include NGM and the Medical Devices Journalist of Boston, and he also serves as a member of the Quincy Youth Soccer Board of Directors, where he helps develop programs aimed at improving young children’s soccer skills, and volunteers at the local food bank. Laying a solid educational foundation, he earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering in 1998, followed by a Master of Business Administration with a focus on medical devices in 2010.
Reflecting on his path, Mr. Alfaro was inspired to pursue a career in medical devices after spending 24 years dedicated to the fight against cancer. Throughout his journey, he has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and experience, which he now feels a strong desire to share. Growing up in a Latin American country and building a successful career with American medical device companies has given him unique insights. He believes that sharing his story could inspire others and motivate them in their own professional journeys. One of his proudest accomplishments is the development of a cutting-edge technology for breast cancer diagnostics at Hologic in Massachusetts. The technology offers high diagnostic accuracy, and he remains committed to creating more innovations that can be accessed globally, with the goal of benefiting patients around the world.
Mr. Alfaro attributes his success to his dedication, passion for innovation, and commitment to nurturing the next generation of engineers to carry on that same passion. He remains deeply committed to ensuring that the teams he has developed continue leveraging advanced technologies in the fight against cancer. To foster this, he is focused on sharing his knowledge and creating a clear roadmap for developing the skills of young engineers and applying these technologies effectively. In pursuit of this goal, he has established an internship program for junior and senior college students, aiming to encourage them to create innovative solutions, particularly in healthcare. As a father of two daughters, he is also dedicated to promoting the involvement of more female engineers in his initiatives, recognizing the importance of diversity in driving innovation. In the coming years, his goals include creating a platform to share his story and experiences with a broader audience.
