Reflecting on his path, Mr. Lydic spent the majority of his career in public accounting before transitioning in 2021, when a friend from the board of a nonprofit research corporation approached him about an interim chief financial officer role to help guide the organization through a merger. Given his extensive experience and the fact that he was not seeking a long-term commitment, he accepted the position. Following this, he took a year to focus on personal time, including visiting his grandchildren in Florida, while awaiting the right professional opportunity. Additionally, he worked primarily in public accounting, a field where most professionals transitioned after a few years. However, he remained committed to mentoring young professionals, many of whom went on to become controllers and chief financial officers. He takes pride in the positive impact he has had on the development of these future leaders.
Mr. Lydic attributes his success to his personable nature and his ability to treat everyone with respect, which helps him earn people’s trust. Looking to the future, in the short term, his primary goal at his current organization is to alleviate the administrative burdens on caseworkers, allowing them to focus on their crucial work and assist more individuals. Long term, he aims to leave a lasting legacy at the Center for Healthy Families, a mission he has already begun by securing contributions from former colleagues and his previous employer for the organization’s annual campaign. Additionally, he hopes to raise awareness about the challenges faced by the women the center serves, as their stories deeply resonate with him.
