With over two decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Brown has built a distinguished career in consulting, specializing in business continuity, disaster recovery, and crisis management. As the owner, president, and chief executive officer of KETCHConsulting, he empowers individuals and organizations to manage crises effectively. Drawing from his role in recovery efforts following a major university incident in the U.S. Virgin Islands, he brings firsthand expertise in developing successful recovery strategies. The company’s mission is to equip clients with the tools needed to face adversity with confidence. One of the firm’s standout achievements is its work with Acco, a billion-dollar construction company in California. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, KETCHConsulting developed a comprehensive business continuity plan for Acco, conducting risk assessments and preparedness exercises, allowing Acco to transition seamlessly to remote operations when their office became inaccessible. Before founding KETCHConsulting, he spent 30 years with IBM, followed by five years at a software company. His early career focused on IBM’s hardware, software, and services, while his later years shifted toward recovery and crisis management.
Mr. Brown also actively contributes to the professional community. In September 2024, he became an executive committee member of the Board of Trustees for Penn State. He is also involved with the Disaster Recovery Institute, the Business Continuity Institute, and the Association of Continuity Professionals. In light of his impressive undertakings, he was named Consultant of the Year by Disaster Recovery International in 2017 and also received their Lifetime Achievement Award.
Additionally, Mr. Brown was elected to the Continuity Planning Management Hall of Fame in 2000 for his outstanding work in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He says throughout his career, he has gained valuable insights from both good and bad bosses, and believes that being able to motivate and treat people fairly is essential in leadership. Laying an educational foundation for these successes, he earned a bachelor’s degree from The Pennsylvania State University.
Reflecting on his path, Mr. Brown credits much of his success to his time with IBM, where he led the sales operation for the company’s foray into the recovery business. Over a decade, he helped grow the business from zero revenue to $1 billion. Additionally, he gives believes his unwavering tenacity and goal-oriented approach have led him to where he is today, as well as following his motto, “I’ll go make it.” He takes pride in his pro bono work for Penn State, having been elected to the Board of Trustees four times and serving as chair of the risk subcommittee. He attributes his success to his unwavering determination and passion for teaching, particularly in tabletop exercises. As a trustee at Penn State, he values the honor of awarding degrees at commencement ceremonies, where he also shares encouragement with graduates. In advising aspiring professionals, he encourages them to have a solid business plan, excellent communication skills, and the ability to multitask effectively. He stresses the importance of networking, managing cash flow, and maintaining flexibility in consulting, which can often be unpredictable.
