Stephen M. Rosenthal, senior vice president at Population Health Management, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.
With five decades of experience, Mr. Rosenthal has built a successful health care career, specializing in health system and physician practice management. He currently serves as senior vice president of population health management at Montefiore Health System in Hudson Valley, New York, a role he has held since 2017, and in the Bronx, New York, since 2014. Additionally, he has excelled as president and chief managing officer of The Care Management Company at Montefiore Medical Center since 1997. His responsibilities include managing the business infrastructure and network components of a large corporation generating $90 million annually for the health system, with oversight of about 700 employees. He is actively involved in community outreach programs for individuals with chronic diseases, managing a patient population of approximately 400,000. In addition, he oversees social determinants of health, such as personal finances, transportation, housing, and legal services, along with managing government contracts.
Mr. Rosenthal’s experience also includes serving as senior vice president of population health management at Montefiore Health System in Hudson Valley, New York, from 2015 to 2019, vice president from 1997 to 2017, corporate vice president of network management from 1995 to 2013, vice president of professional services from 1988 to 1996, associate vice president of planning from 1984 to 1988, and administrator of otorhinolaryngology surgery from 1982 to 1984. He dedicates his time as a fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine and is actively involved in the Healthcare Financial Management Association, American Medical Group Association, and Health Management Academy. Laying a solid educational foundation, he earned an Associate of Arts in speech communication from Kingsborough Community College in 1972, a bachelor’s degree in speech and theater from Brooklyn College in 1974, a Master of Science in audiology from Brooklyn College in 1976, and a Master of Business Administration in finance and management information systems from Pace University in 1986.
Mr. Rosenthal is proud of the progress made over 43 years in championing programs that manage and treat chronic illnesses, with him and his team providing vital support to individuals with schizophrenia, cardiovascular disease, and neurological and physical ailments. He has also led advancements such as expanding the ambulatory care program through partnerships with private equity companies and fostering innovation in new platforms and artificial intelligence. He credits his success to strong leadership, transparency, and direct communication, with humor fostering respect and a positive environment. In the coming years, he plans to further develop his role and foster leadership within the Montefiore Health System. Despite nearing retirement, he remains passionate about supporting the organization while exploring new projects.
