She currently excels as the general manager of risk management and trust and safety operations at Microsoft, a role she has held since 2022. In this capacity, she oversees the compliance arm of Microsoft’s business operations, ensuring strong partnerships and trusted third-party relationships. Earlier in her career, she worked as group audit project manager for Microsoft from 2011 to 2014 and as senior manager at KPMG from 2000 to 2011. Additionally, she dedicates her time to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants, and serves as an executive sponsor for business operations in Microsoft’s Giving Campaign. In light of her impressive undertakings, she was honored with the Ethel Award at Microsoft. Laying a strong educational foundation for these successes, she earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Alabama A&M University in 1998 and is a certified public accountant.
Reflecting on her path, Ms. Liburd spent her first 11 years at Microsoft within internal audit, progressing from a senior manager to a director. During this time, she gained invaluable global experience, traveling extensively and developing a nuanced understanding of how business practices and associated risks vary from country to country. Upon returning to the U.S., she shifted her focus to the corporate side, taking responsibility for all internal audits and co-leading with two of her peers. She takes great pride in making a difference by helping others grow and develop, finding fulfillment in witnessing their progress over time. She also describes her time in Singapore as a career-defining moment, stepping entirely out of her comfort zone to take on an uncharted role. There, she had to set her own benchmarks for success, ultimately navigating and excelling in the position through her resourcefulness and dedication.
Ms. Liburd attributes her success to being a driven individual and a people person. She credits her achievements to a supportive group of mentors, sponsors, and coaches who have opened doors for her throughout her career. Growing up with parents who modeled a strong work ethic also played a pivotal role in shaping her approach. Looking to the future, she is determined to keep learning and challenging herself, as new areas and opportunities are what keeps her motivated and inspired. Outside of her professional endeavors, she enjoys traveling, spending time with family, modeling, attending tennis events, and cooking.
