Thomas John Ennis, senior vice president of sales and Marketing at FotoKem, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in sales and marketing.
With nearly four and a half decades of experience, Mr. Ennis has built a successful career in sales and marketing. He currently serves as senior vice president of sales and marketing at FotoKem, a role he has held since 2000. His extensive experience includes positions such as senior vice president of sales and marketing at Visual Display Innovations Inc. from 1995 to 1999, president and owner of TJE Marketing from 1994 to 1995, and vice president and general manager at Starcom Television Services from 1988 to 1994. Earlier in his career, he worked as an account executive at Advanced Machine and Engineering Co. in 1987 and 1988, served on the advertising faculty at Michigan State University from 1985 to 1987, was vice president at Design Communications Advertising Agency from 1983 to 1984, and completed the executive training program as a buyer and sales manager at Macy’s from 1980 to 1982.
Mr. Ennis’s laid a solid educational foundation, earning a Bachelor of Arts in humanities with a focus on English, history, and marketing from Michigan State University in 1980, a bachelor’s degree in advertising in 1983, and a Master of Arts in advertising research in 1987. He is actively involved with the Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club, Harbor Island Yacht Club, and The Saticoy Club. Additionally, he serves as a board member for the YMCA of the East Valley and is a former board member of St. Joseph’s Hospital, and a member of the Scarlet Society.
Reflecting on his path, Mr. Ennis began his career in the educational sector, producing a 40-program series for an introductory advertising class, gaining valuable production experience that remains useful to him today. While working with a Michigan State University instructor who was also a former creative director for Leo Burnett, responsible for iconic campaigns like Tony the Tiger and the Jolly Green Giant, he was introduced to creative advertising. Inspired by his mentor, he expressed a desire to follow a similar path but was advised to build a portfolio and relocate to Chicago. Seeking further development, he secured a teaching assistant position that required him to repair an inherited audio bay and oversee student audio production for commercial voiceovers and soundtracks. Although unfamiliar with technical work, his determination led him to master the role, a pivotal experience that helped shape his core talents. This background later contributed to his voiceover work for projects like “Warriors of Heaven and Earth.”
Mr. Ennis takes great pride in his career, particularly in his exceptional audio work, as well as his achievements in sales and marketing, where he has consistently met and exceeded revenue targets. His success stemmed from a talent for identifying target markets and fostering strong connections with industry decision-makers through relationship marketing. By investing time to build trust, he developed lasting connections with key studio executives, which led to return business. To strengthen these relationships, he engaged in social activities such as golf, dinners, and gatherings that included their families, reinforcing a sense of connection and trust. He attributes his success to unwavering focus, a strong work ethic, timely decision-making, and a unique attunement to his surroundings, which allows him to recognize opportunities in any situation. In the coming years, he hopes to focus on projects he finds both enjoyable and fulfilling as a professional voiceover artist, free from the pressures of revenue targets, which he finds stifling to creativity. Alongside his voice work, he is eager to explore his artistic talents, including cartooning, writing and performing music, and narrating audiobooks. Currently, he is also preparing to become the landlord of a Victorian beach property, a home he shared with his late wife for nearly 20 years.
