Adam M. Scarpati, Principal at BDO USA, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in finance.
As the owner of and a principal with BDO USA, Mr. Scarpati leads a talented team that provides top-notch professional services, drives sales and ensures the seamless delivery of engagement documents for income taxes to their esteemed clients, who include globally recognized corporations. In their partnership, he is one of 842 other owners, and together they achieved a remarkable $2 billion in revenue in 2023, a testament to their collective dedication and expertise. His previous role as a managing director at KPMG, the fourth-largest accounting firm, provided invaluable experience over six fruitful years. In his current capacity, he is wholeheartedly committed to spearheading business development efforts and steadfastly ensuring adherence to U.S. tax laws and regulations.
Mr. Scarpati has worked in the finance field since 2001, gaining substantial experience over the years. He describes his early career as a “trial by fire,” beginning with his first job at Thomas Havey LLP, now Novak|Francella LLC. One of his earliest assignments was auditing the New York City Firefighters Widows and Children’s Fund, a project that initially appeared straightforward with a manageable amount of financial activity. Following the tragic events of September 11, the fund experienced a massive influx of donations, ballooning from one million to $150 million. Though managing this amount was intense and unprecedented, rapidly transforming his role, he was able to succeed in the position and stabilize the fund. In addition to his many years of experience, he holds a Master of Science in taxation and a Master of Business Administration from Long Island University Post.
From 2009 to 2022, Mr. Scarpati served as the executive director of The Miles for Matt Foundation, an organization named in memory of a student at the University of Buffalo who was struck and killed by a motorcyclist while cycling. Driven by the desire to address the safety concerns that led to Matthew’s death, Mr. Scarpati founded the organization with a political focus, garnering attention at the highest levels of government that led to improvements in the safety of the community’s bike path. After reaching an agreement with the state, he transformed the organization from a political action committee into a charitable foundation that now funds a scholarship for economics majors at the University of Buffalo. Moving forward, he is committed to expanding BDO USA’s tax practice and growing the company into a successful $50 million enterprise. In addition, he is determined to prepare the next generation of leaders to succeed in the field of public accounting. Having accumulated 23 years of experience, he seeks to pass on his knowledge and experience to emerging leaders.
