Company: Yamba Market
Location: Boston, Massachusetts, United States
Sieh Samura, Co-Owner and Chief Executive Officer at Yamba Market, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Cannabis Retail.
Mr. Samura, co-owner and chief executive officer of Yamba Market, a cannabis retailer located in Central Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts, launched the company in 2020. As the first marijuana dispensary in the area, the adult-use cannabis storefront is highly regulated, offering flowers, rolls, vapes, edibles, extracts and much more. Customers also have the option to buy online and pick up in-store. Leveraging his former entrepreneurial success, Mr. Samura has also owned and managed 612 Studios LLC since 2018, a local business committed to formulating cannabis products that help in the health and well-being of individuals and communities.
As a dedicated business owner, Mr. Samura ensures daily operations run smoothly. Since he is prohibited from deducting regular business expenses, he focuses heavily on the budget to maintain profitability. He also works closely with his staff members and diligently develops strategies for future success.
Before pivoting into business ownership, Mr. Samura was an interpretive park ranger for the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation from 2009 to 2012. His expertise has been complemented by his dedication to his country, having served in the U.S. Army National Guard as a motor transport operator escorting convoys and transportation in a war zone in Iraq. Additionally, Mr. Samura served in the Massachusetts National Guard between 2000 and 2006.
Mr. Samura’s unique entry into the cannabis industry began after resigning from his position as a park ranger due to the post-traumatic stress disorder he suffered from his service in the military. Consequently, he became educated about medical cannabis and then began advocating for it. Soon after, Mr. Samura secured a role as a service provider for medical cannabis and managed a cannabis club, Mass Bay Cannabis. Earning a reputation for his expertise, he was locally nicknamed “Chief.” Ultimately, Mr. Samura secured a license to sell cannabis and began collaborating with the Cannabis Control Commission and other similar organizations regarding new cannabis licensing in Massachusetts, becoming an early beneficiary.
Possessing a rich educational background, Mr. Samura obtained an Associate of Arts in liberal arts and social sciences from Roxbury Community College in 1997 and a Bachelor of Science in multi- and interdisciplinary studies, history, and communications from Fitchburg State University in 2008. He also garnered several professional credentials, including in small and medium-sized enterprises, from the Trade Academy in 2020.
Among Mr. Samura’s most significant professional accomplishments is being the first to bring licensed, adult-use cannabis to Cambridge. The success of his business led to the opening of Yamba Boutique, a minority-owned and multicultural cannabis retail leader that his wife owns and manages in the Harvard Square section of Cambridge. Notably, Yamba is an African word that represents culture.
In light of his professional success, the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce named Mr. Samura the Best Small Business in Cambridge in 2023. Earlier in his career, the Guild of Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts recognized him for his service in 2005. Moreover, he received an Army Commendation for his service in Iraq in 2004. Eager for future success, Mr. Samura aims to continue growing market share and possibly become vertically integrated.
