Title: Owner and Managing Director
Company: WeAquatics
Location: Bowie, Maryland, United States
David Worrell, Owner and Managing Director at WeAquatics, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in swimming instruction.
With many years of experience to his credit, Mr. Worrell currently excels as the owner and managing director of WeAquatics, a company he founded to provide year-round personalized swimming lessons for individuals of all ages through scholarships. He has been instrumental in establishing a market for swimming lessons, drowning intervention training, and competitive team swimming that extend beyond the summer months, having identified a gap in the availability of swimming instructors for infants and children in his region. Through strategic marketing and training efforts, he developed a team of six licensed instructors, including his brother, Bradford, who now offer these specialized lessons. WeAquatics operates across 20 locations, sponsoring events and partnering with gym networks such as LA Fitness and One Night Fitness, as well as collaborating with the city of Alexandria, Virginia, and a number of educational institutions, through which he donates lessons to those who cannot afford them.
In addition to founding WeAquatics, Mr. Worrell has served as a certified instructor for Infant Swimming Resource since 2009. He was previously active as a summer analyst with Intel in 2006 and a consultant with Navigant Consulting between 2007 and 2009. His experience in these positions provided him with valuable insights into business operations and management, which he later applied to his own company. Mr. Worrell has also contributed as a member of industry-related organizations such as the National Drowning Prevention Alliance and USA Swimming, reflecting his commitment to water safety and education.
Mr. Worrell supported his professional ambitions with his formal academic accomplishments, which include a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from Howard University, where he graduated in 2007. His education laid the foundation for his business acumen and strategic thinking, which have been crucial to his success with WeAquatics. Additionally, his certification as an infant swimming resource has enabled him to offer specialized instruction and train other instructors in this method.
The success of WeAquatics is attributed not only to Mr. Worrell’s relentless determination but also to the collaborative efforts of his team. He values teamwork and has been fortunate to work with like-minded individuals who have helped elevate the company. His passion for swimming and teaching has inspired him to create opportunities for others to learn and excel in this field.
Mr. Worrell’s influence extends beyond his primary endeavors. He was featured in Dazzle Magazine, highlighting his dedication to the community and his innovative approach to swimming education. His entrepreneurial spirit has been further fostered by his family as well as his mentor Hossein Noshirvani, who has guided him through various aspects of business management. A former competitive swimmer, Mr. Worrell is renowned for his open-mindedness and ability to turn challenges into opportunities.
Mr. Worrell has been greatly motivated by his experiences in the private sector, having been fueled to establish WeAquatics upon returning to swim coaching after having been unexpectedly laid off as a management consultant. In the years that followed, he has been driven to help those who can identify with his experiences during his period of unemployment, as he has ensured that his company offers their employees full benefits as a result. Mr. Worrell is proud to devote his spare time to his family, including his loving spouse, Malanda, and their wonderful children, David Worrell III and Alina.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Worrell envisions empowering his team members to take charge of specific locations within WeAquatics, allowing them to shape the organization according to their vision. He additionally aims to develop an organizational playbook that can be applied to new areas, providing more people with opportunities to contribute to their communities effectively. Mr. Worrell also hopes to continue parlaying his open-minded attitude into any opportunity that may arise in the coming years.
