Besides her work at FranklinCovey, Ms. Chapman Bacerra has garnered success as the founder and chief executive officer of Trailblazing in Color since 2021, a San Diego-based strategic management services firm that offers coaching, peer advisory and other services that focus on helping historically underrepresented leaders thrive. Trailblazing in Color is recognized as a woman-owned, minority-owned, LGBT-owned organization. Moreover, Ms. Chapman Bacerra has excelled as the chief learning officer at The Center for Respectful Leadership, a think tank based in San Diego in 2022.
Leveraging her former success in the industry, Ms. Chapman Bacerra was a consulting member of The Upside from 2023 to 2024, the director of learning and development at The Center for Respectful Leadership between 2020 and 2022, and a learning and development manager at Soapy Joe’s Inc. from 2020 to 2021. Among her earlier roles, she worked for such organizations as ELM Learning as a senior learning experience designer and head of learning architecture, Hera Hub as the director of learning and engagement, and Paladin Group as a consultant. Among other positions dating back to 2009, Ms. Chapman Bacerra gained invaluable experience in the classroom as an online adjunct faculty member at Ashford University from 2012 to 2015.
Highly educated, Ms. Chapman Bacerra holds a Bachelor of Science in media studies from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Arts in organizational management with a specialization in human resources from Ashford University. Additionally, she holds several professional designations, including as a certified high-performance coach through the High Performance Institute and as a qualified administrator through Intercultural Development Inventory LLC.
Apart from her primary work obligations, Ms. Chapman Bacerra is a member of several professional organizations, including the San Diego Business Association and the National Association of Women Business Owners. She is also active on the Center for Respectful Leadership advisory council. Civically, Ms. Chapman Bacerra has been instrumental as a charter member, secretary and treasurer of Toastmasters International. She has also been serving as an advisory council member for The Center for Respectful Leadership and as a programming advisor at The Afara Collective.
Ms. Chapman Bacerra has become widely recognized for her contributions to learning and development programs and leadership in intersectional justice spaces. In light of her success, she won several awards, including an HCM Excellence Award from the Brandon Hall Group in 2021, an Ignite Respect Founders Award from The Center for Respectful Leadership in 2021 and an LGBTQ Leaders of Influence award from the San Diego Business Journal in 2024. Ms. Chapman Bacerra attributes her success to her family’s unwavering support and nurturing community.
