With over two and a half decades of experience, Mr. Rajani has established a successful career in communications, specializing in smart grid and power. He currently serves as executive vice chairman of business development for the Americas at CyanConnode and adviser to the chairman and president for CyanConnode in the U.S., India, Middle East, and North Africa, roles he has held since 2021. He has also served as director of OBO Consulting Services in India since 2020. His board-level contributions include membership on the board of advisers for Smart Energy Water since 2019 and the board of governors for the India Smart Grid Forum in New Delhi, where he has chaired the work group on advanced metering infrastructure, analytics, and cybersecurity since 2012. His primary responsibilities at CyanConnode include overseeing operations in India, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, while also spearheading market development in the Americas. He dedicates nearly half of his time to engaging with policymakers, industry professionals, and utility companies, driving progress in smart grid communication and the power sector.

Mr. Rajani’s experience also includes managing director and chief executive officer of CyanConnode India from 2020 to 2021, head of digital and the Internet of Things (IoT) at Adani Group in Mumbai from 2018 to 2019, and senior executive vice president, chief information officer, and chief technology officer at Reliance Infrastructure from 2010 to 2018. Additionally, he served as vice president at Reliance Communications and Reliance Energy from 2004 to 2010 and director at Wireless Nova India Private Limited from 1998 to 2004. He also dedicates his time to various humanitarian and environmental causes, including education for destitute children, reforestation efforts in the upper Himalayas, free meals programs for underserved communities, and employing single mothers. His contributions include pioneering innovations such as the introduction of the first smart meters in 2001, the development of ITV6 for low-power wireless networks, and formulating Indian smart metering standards in 2013 and 2014. In 2009, he collaborated with Foxconn to create the world’s most affordable smartphone using Windows. Laying a strong educational foundation for these accomplishments, he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business in 2016.

Reflecting on his path, as chief technology officer for Reliance’s telecommunications business in India, Mr. Rajani led the architecture for smart metering and telemetering, earning the 3G Global Industry Award in 2006. Additionally, his work introduced the concept of smart meters before they were available in the U.S. and set the stage for advancements in IoT and wireless networks. He attributes his success to his mother, whose encouragement and values inspired him to prioritize contribution over financial gain. Looking to the future, he is committed to fostering compassion and success in his children while advancing technologies that are more accessible and impactful for a broader audience. He advises aspiring professionals to embrace persistence, recognizing that failure often precedes success. He emphasizes the value of conflict management and meaningful dialogue, noting that corporate America frequently misses opportunities for collaboration. He believes organizations should prioritize alliances to drive innovation and efficiency.
