Keane Orlando Toney, adjunct criminal justice professor at Stark State College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in public safety.

With nearly four and a half decades of experience, Mr. Toney has built a distinguished career in public safety and law enforcement. He serves as the owner of Toney Police Consulting LLC, a role he has held since 2012, and as an adjunct professor of human services and justice studies at Stark State College since 2007. His experinece includes roles as director of public safety for the city of Zanesville from 2018 to 2020 and director of campus safety and security at the University of Mount Union from 2004 to 2016. He has also served as a basic police instructor at Buckeye Joint Vocational Police Academy, a police academy instructor at Traynor’s Police Academy, and commander of the OPOTA Private Security Academy and Fire EMT-B Academy for Barberton City Schools. His field experience spans service as a police detective and sergeant with the City of Canton Ohio Police Department, deputy sheriff with the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office, narcotics enforcement agent with the Lorain County Metropolitan Enforcement Group, and deputy sheriff and sergeant with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department.

Mr. Toney established a strong educational foundation, earning an associate of science in police science from the University of Akron in 1986, a Bachelor of Applied Science in criminal justice and law enforcement administration from Charter Oaks State College in 1999, and a master’s degree in criminal justice and law enforcement administration from Andrew Jackson University in 2003. He is certified as a basic police instructor and private security academy instructor by the State of Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Dedicated to professional organizations, he has been an active member of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, the Ohio Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, and the Local McKinley Lodge #2 of the Fraternal Order of Police in Canton, Ohio, since 1984. In light of his impressive undertakings, he received the ICON Award from the City of Alliance Urban Pastors Association in 2016, a commendation from the State of Ohio House of Representatives by Representative Christine Hagan in 2016, and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership and Diversity Award from the University of Mount Union in 2016. Additionally, his excellence was honored with the August Vollmer Distinguished Criminal Justice Excellence Award from Andrew Jackson University in 2003.

Mr. Toney attributes his success to his faith and family, which have been a guiding force throughout his life. Growing up in the Christian faith instilled in him a deep respect for people of other faiths, including Islam and Buddhism, and helped shape his ability to connect with diverse communities. He credits the unwavering support of his family for influencing both his personal and professional journey. Looking to the future, he is focused on excelling as a father and grandfather, striving to create meaningful and lasting memories with his grandchildren. He is also committed to fostering deeper relationships with his close friends, such as Sgt. Tom Cook of the sheriff’s department, whom he considers family. While continuing to contribute to the field of public safety and law enforcement, his ultimate goal is to strengthen his bonds with loved ones and leave a lasting legacy of connection and care.
