With over three decades of experience, Dr. Mishin has built a distinguished career in research and development. Since 2022, he has served as vice president of research and development for high-energy sources and ABC production at Varex Imaging Corporation, following roles as senior director at Varex Imaging from 2017 to 2022, senior director at Varian Medical Systems in 2016, and vice president of high-energy systems at American Science and Engineering Inc. from 1998 to 2008. He also founded and led RADMEDEX LLC and Thought One LLC between 2008 and 2016 and previously served as vice president of research and development at Schonberg Research Corporation from 1993 to 1998.
Dr. Mishin has also dedicated himself as a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, contributed to the American Society for Nondestructive Testing, a central resource and facilitator for education in the nondestructive testing field, and served as chairman of the Santa Clara County/Region of Moscow, Russia Sister County Commission from 1996 to 2004. He also worked with the Center for Citizen Initiatives, pacifist organization that seeks to reduce tensions between the United States and Russia, The Federal Emergency Agency, and the Santa Clara Board of Supervisors. Laying a solid educational foundation, he holds a candidate of technical sciences degree, equivalent to a PhD, from the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, and completed coursework in managing high-technology companies at Stanford University in 2002.
Dr. Mishin has played a pivotal role in Varex Imaging’s success, overseeing the development and operation of the ABC production line, which is integral to the production of high-energy linear accelerators. Hired prior to the company’s separation from Varian Medical, he was tasked with setting up a production line in Salt Lake City to manufacture a key component for electron beam accelerators. Varex Imaging specializes in X-ray tubes and LINACs that serve industrial and medical applications. The company produces components and systems for non-destructive testing, security screening, radiation therapy for cancer treatment, and E-Beam processing. It also delivers complete cargo screening systems for border patrol and inspection solutions for critical infrastructure like nuclear reactors and pipelines. Today, Varex Imaging stands as a leading global producer, manufacturing nearly 200 linear accelerators annually along with critical components for medical and industrial systems.
Reflecting on his path, Dr. Mishin’s most notable achievement is the creation of a highly skilled, top-tier A-class team, with each member personally trained under his guidance. Throughout his career, he has also worked alongside exceptional mentors and industry experts while training and mentoring the next generation of professionals entering the field. He attributes his success to a combination of persistence, luck, and the unwavering support of those around him. Additionally, growing up in India for three years with his parents, he acquired proficiency in English, which later proved to be a significant asset in his professional endeavors.
