A leader in the financial sector, Mr. Baggs spent over 30 years as a corporate officer for CSX Corporation, a Rail Transportation company based in Jacksonville, Florida, before retiring as the chief investor relations officer and treasurer in 2018. His tenure was marked by numerous promotions and handling tasks related to business planning, corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions, and more. During his tenure, Mr. Baggs became active on various boards and has remained active on the board of the Union Presbyterian Seminary since 2022. He is also a member of the audit, investment, business, and finance committees and the alignment task force committee, responsible for evaluating the best use of the seminary’s physical assets. The union oversees the seminary’s endowment fund’s strategic direction and investment performance in Richmond, Virginia.
In preparation for his career, Mr. Baggs attended the University of Arizona, where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration in corporate finance and general business in 1981 and a Master of Business Administration in corporate finance from William & Mary in 1985. Throughout his time in the corporate sector, he became active with numerous industry-related organizations. He was also instrumental on the boards for the American Commercial Barge Line, the American National Red Cross’s North Florida region and the Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity.
In light of Mr. Baggs’s accomplishments at CSX Corporation, Institutional Investor Magazine ranked the organization’s investor relations program among the best in the transportation sector every year between 2011 and 2018. CSX was also recognized as the Most Honored Company every year from 2014 to 2018. Moreover, Mr. Bagg’s success earned him a Professional Achievement Award from the University of Arizona in 2017. He credits much of his success to his strong understanding of finance, proven track record, ability to develop talent, upbringing and several mentors from CSX. Enthusiastic about the future, Mr. Baggs plans to continue focusing on positioning Union Presbyterian Seminary for sustainable success, while remaining active in philanthropy by supporting humanitarian efforts for the underprivileged.
