Dr. Hanson is an experienced nonprofit executive whose career includes serving as the president and chief executive officer of Heartland Coalition since 2001, a California nonprofit organization that supports advancing sustainable communities. Leveraging his extensive financial background to support the organization, Dr. Hanson is a seasoned representative with MassMutual and the chief executive officer of LMI of San Diego. Having garnered over 50 years of professional success, his diverse experience included former high school and college leadership positions, serving as the director of training and development for the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council, and leading Thoryk Architecture as its chief financial officer.
Highly educated, Dr. Hanson received a Bachelor of Arts in history from Luther College, a Master of Arts in leadership and human behavior from Alliant International University, a Master of Arts in English and American literature from the University of California San Diego, and a Doctor of Philosophy in education with an emphasis in corporate training and finance from Claremont University. He also received credentials as a director of a California post-secondary institution through the United Latino Students Association.
Besides his work-related obligations, Dr. Hanson enjoys serving as the Heartland YouthBuild School’s director and on the National Council of Teachers of English board. He has notably authored several books and is now focusing on establishing green energy fiber optic programs throughout California to secure an adequate supply of fiber optic chips. In light of his contributions to his community, Dr. Hanson received an award from the South Bay Workforce Investment Board and the Lakeside Chamber of Commerce, and he received a Service Term of the Year accolade from his local chamber for facilitating numerous job placements. He credits his achievement to his unwavering perseverance, selflessness and knowledge acquisition.
