Brian Ragatz, president of Saint Thomas Academy, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.
Mr. Ragatz, a leader in education for over two decades, has been the president at Saint Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights, Minnesota, since 2023. Leveraging his extensive administrative background, he manages a school that employs over 100 staff members and serves approximately 550 students with an annual budget of $20 million. Mr. Ragatz initially joined the academy in 1998 as what the school now refers to as president, as the first to serve in such a capacity. As such, his expanded responsibilities reflect the modernized approach to the school’s structure. Mr. Ragatz is notably the 30th leader of the academy since its founding in 1885, with former leaders holding the title of headmaster.
Among other noteworthy roles, Mr. Ragatz had the opportunity to serve in leading roles as the president of the Catholic Schools Center of Excellence from 2020 to 2023, principal at Saint Odilia School between 2013 and 2020, principal at Saint Thomas More Catholic School between 2011 and 2013, and principal at the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary School from 2007 to 2011. He also taught as an adjunct instructor at the University of Saint Thomas between 2018 and 2020 and Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, from 2009 to 2011. Earlier in his career, Mr. Ragatz garnered experience as a middle school teacher and athletics director at the Nativity of Our Lord School between 2002 and 2007.
In preparation for his career in education, Mr. Ragatz received a BA in social science teacher education from Saint John’s University in 2002 and a Master of Arts in educational administration from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in 2007. He also holds professional credentials as an educational specialist and licensed K-12 principal from the University of Saint Thomas, and he completed the Finding Purpose and Meaning in Life course at the University of Michigan. Besides his education, Mr. Ragatz served as a second lieutenant in the Minnesota Army National Guard, providing him with the discipline and leadership skills he utilizes today. Throughout his career, he has given back his time through various professional and civic roles with organizations like the Minnesota Non-Public Schools Accrediting Association and the Archdiocesan Catholic School Principal’s Association, and is the author of “No Experience Necessary.” Eager for the future of Saint Thomas Academy, Mr. Ragatz intends to expand the school while shaping his students into men of character and integrity by providing them with a superior educational experience.
