Rene A. Ronquillo, director of police administration for the Dallas Independent School District Police Department, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law enforcement and education.
Mr. Ronquillo, an experienced law enforcement professional, has been the director of police administration for the Dallas Independent School District Police Department, the 14th largest school district in the nation, since 2005. His leading role comes after serving as an operations executive for Dallas ISD Human Resources from 2001 to 2005. During that time, Mr. Ronquillo was responsible for training and supporting all management-level employees, encompassing over 20,000 individuals across more than 240 schools with an annual budget of over $1 million. Mr. Ronquillo’s expertise in human resources spanned over 15 years in the public and private sectors.
As the highest non-sworn civilian in his department, Mr. Ronquillo serves as a command staff member. He is tasked with assisting the chief of police in managing the department’s daily operations and coordinating the activities of approximately 200 employees, including non-sworn and sworn personnel. Among many other daily objectives, Mr. Ronquillo is a project manager for an over $100 million bond initiative for school safety and district-wide security.
Previously, Mr. Ronquillo enjoyed a remarkable career in the educational sector. Among his various positions, he taught in the public school system in Iowa and Texas. He also taught human resources and business management courses to college-level students at the University of Phoenix and Dallas College and U.S. government as an adjunct instructor at the University of Texas in Arlington.
Highly educated, Mr. Ronquillo holds a Bachelor of Arts in American history, Spanish literature and education from the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa, and a Master of Public Administration from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. Adding to his educational background, he holds multiple credentials in education, mental health and law enforcement, such as a Texas administrator and secondary education teacher, mental health officer and school-based law enforcement officer. Mr. Ronquillo is also a Lean Six Sigma green belt and is bilingual in English and Spanish.
Active in his professional community to remain at the forefront of his field, Mr. Ronquillo is a member of the Association of Hispanic Administrators, the Dallas School Administrators Association, the National Latino Law Enforcement Organization and the Texas Independent School District Police Association. These memberships have been pivotal in his ability to network and collaborate with like-minded individuals within his field.
Mr. Ronquillo stresses the importance of aspiring law enforcement professionals engaging in as many training opportunities as possible and working diligently to advance through the ranks. He also notes the importance of education in career progression and strong public speaking skills to communicate effectively with staff and community members. If seeking advancement to the rank of chief of police, he suggests attending the three-month FBI Academy program. Grateful to his most significant mentor and first chief of police, he advised Mr. Ronquillo to participate in the police academy to become a more effective police administrator in the field.
In preparation for the near future, Mr. Ronquillo aims to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle so he can continue to perform his duties with vigor. He also intends to continue inspiring future leaders by teaching law and human resources courses at the academic level.
