With two decades of experience, Mr. Simianu has established a successful career in biotechnology and specialty pharmacy consulting. Since 2015, he has served as principal of Sphinx Strategies, offering comprehensive growth solutions for independent and chain pharmacies. His services include managing accreditation preparation, developing strategic initiatives, driving financial and operational excellence, payor contracting, and delivering data-driven solutions. His experience also includes serving as corporate contracts manager at Baptist Health South Florida from 2014 to 2015. In this role, he managed the pharmaceutical supply chain for the region’s largest faith-based non-profit health system, achieving a 50:1 ROI within 120 days by optimizing automation and billing processes across a 1,700-bed network. Leading a team of 10, he oversaw $60 million in annual pharmaceutical goods and collaborated on key strategic projects, including a $430 million Proton Cancer Therapy Institute, a 150,000-square-foot distribution warehouse, and the acquisition of an oncology pharmacy and infusion group.
Additionally, Mr. Simianu’s career includes serving as manager of special projects at Premier from 2011 to 2014, where he secured $15 million in revenue by leading URAC accreditation for three specialty pharmacies and implemented drug pricing protocols, generating $30 million over three years. He successfully launched the 340-B drug pricing program across 20 hospital locations in six months and delivered $200 million in oncology savings and $4.5 million in hepatitis C savings through clinical analyses. He also optimized $4 million in inventory, reducing working capital fluctuations from 16% to under 1%, and trained analysts to enhance KPI reporting and accounts receivable processes. Earlier he was an operations analyst at Premier Purchasing Partners in 2010, founder of Market Sphinx LLC from 2007 to 2010, and co-founder of The Virtu Project from 2007 to 2008. His background also includes roles as an undergraduate teaching assistant at Indiana University Bloomington in 2005 and as accounting and business development manager at M3V Business Development from 2004 to 2010.
Laying a strong educational foundation, Mr. Simianu earned a Bachelor of Science in biotechnology from Indiana University Bloomington in 2008 and a Master of Business Administration in corporate innovation, finance, and life sciences from the same institution in 2011. He is also a certified pharmacy consultant in specialty pharmacy and DMEPOS, accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care Inc. He is also a member of the Accreditation Commission for Health Care Inc., the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy, and the Immunoglobulin National Society, and is a donor to the Children’s Organ Transplant Association. His accomplishments include receiving second place in the Venture Capital Investment Competition at Indiana University in 2009 and was awarded a Life Sciences Fellowship at Indiana University Bloomington.
Reflecting on his path, a standout highlight of Mr. Simianu’s career was earning the prestigious Life Sciences Fellowship from Indiana University Bloomington, awarded as a result of his third startup, The Virtu Project, which captured the attention of the university’s head of entrepreneurship. He attributes his success to the unwavering support of his family, whose sacrifices during his upbringing instilled in him a strong work ethic and deep gratitude. Motivated by a desire to give back to his parents and improve the world, he considers himself fortunate to have their encouragement. Looking to the future, he envisions returning to the mountains, a place he holds close to his heart. An avid coffee enthusiast, he aspires to one day own a coffee shop. Additionally, he is deeply committed to environmental conservation and plans to actively engage in initiatives aimed at protecting the environment.
