Upon assuming these positions, he has been instrumental in advancing the foundation’s mission to promote health, fitness, wellness, nutrition, advocacy, and research support for individuals with disabilities. Mr. Kemp’s responsibilities include reporting to the board of directors, strategic planning on programs and initiatives, and engaging in disability policy and advocacy on local, national, and global levels.

Mr. Kemp’s career has been marked by a series of influential roles that have shaped his expertise in leadership and management within non-profit organizations. Prior to his present post, he was active as the president and chief executive officer of the Viscardi Center from 2010 to 2021. He also served as the executive director and general counsel for Disability:IN from 2007 to 2010. Mr. Kemp previously found success as the national executive director of the United Cerebral Palsy Association from 1990 to 1995, the chief executive officer of ACCSES from 2001 to 2010, and both principal and partner at Powers Pyles Sutter and Verville PC from 2001 to 2011.

In addition to his primary roles, Mr. Kemp has contributed to several civic-minded organizations. He has been notably recruited as a board member of Inclusively and as a member of the board of directors for The Elizabeth Dole Foundation. His commitment to inclusive governance is further demonstrated through his involvement with the Center for Inclusive Governance at the National Association of Corporate Directors. As an adviser for the FDR Memorial Legacy Project, Mr. Kemp continues to influence disability policy and politics.

Mr. Kemp’s stellar academic achievements have played a crucial role in his success. He initially earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Georgetown University in 1971 before obtaining a Juris Doctor from Washburn University School of Law in 1974. He later received an honorary Doctor of Laws from Washburn University School of Law in 2003 and an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from the University of Connecticut in 2018. These educational credentials were pivotal in shaping his legal advocacy skills and supplementing his leadership experience.

Throughout his stellar career, Mr. Kemp has been recognized with numerous accolades for his contributions to disability advocacy and leadership, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from Washburn University School of Law in 2017, the Jack Hausman Humanitarian Award from ADAPT in 2023, and the Robert J. Dole Leadership Prize from the Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas in 2014. His dedication to inclusivity is further reflected in his publications, including “Disability Friendly: How to Move from Clueless to Inclusive,” which was published in 2023.

Outside his primary endeavors, Mr. Kemp enjoys dedicating time to his family, which includes his spouse, Sameta Borton Camp, and their two children. He is passionate about sports, both as a spectator and participant, and remains particularly passionate about swimming. Looking toward the future, Mr. Kemp is committed to expanding Lakeshore Foundation’s mission through licensing partnerships that will enhance health, wellness, fitness, and nutrition content tailored for individuals with disabilities on a national and potentially global scale.
