Initially acquired by Iridium Communcations Inc. in 2017, Mr. Jones was a member of the technical staff, serving as the VS software engineering associate director. As such, he oversaw employees, budgets, schedules and processes to ensure success. After several years in his position, Mr. Jones was named the director of SV software engineering, where he was tasked with similar responsibilities on a larger scale. He remained in his position in 2021 until being promoted again to his present title of executive director.
Headquartered in McLean, Virginia, Iridium Communications Inc. is a publicly traded telecommunications company established in 2004. Since its founding, it has become recognized as the only mobile satellite service company to provide worldwide pole-to-pole coverage. During his tenure at Iridium Communications Inc., Mr. Jones simultaneously garnered experience as a systems engineer at Boeing, a leading global aerospace company, in 2021. The opportunity allowed him to gain more diverse experience in his field, which was a notable accomplishment.
In preparation for his future, Mr. Jones studied at DeVry University in Glendale, Arizona, where he acquired an Associate of Arts in electronics technology in 1990. Years later, he returned to the institution, earning a Bachelor of Science in technical management in 2001 to advance his capabilities. These degrees have enabled him to continually progress in the communications industry and become recognized as an expert in his niche area of the field.
Mr. Jones’s engineering, aerospace, satellite communications, and system testing expertise has been pivotal to his success. Likewise, his contributions to Iridium’s satellite system have provided advanced global communications and technical capabilities.
Reflecting on his career in communications thus far, Mr. Jones recognizes his father for instilling a strong work ethic and teaching him the value of being resourceful while coming of age on ranches and farms in Montana. Mr. Jones believes that his ability to adapt and problem-solve has also been a factor in his professional success, allowing him to navigate every situation and successfully overcome challenges. He also credits his perseverance and drive to accomplish his professional goals with limited resources.
As he prepares for the future, Mr. Jones intends to continue positively impacting the industry. He is also considering stepping into an educational role in the next decade, where he can give back to the next generation of industry leaders. Having noticed a gap in the education system, he believes he can make a difference. Additionally, Mr. Jones is exploring opportunities for increased involvement in presenting at professional conferences in his area of expertise.
